Emotional clip captures the moment a father surprised his daughter after travelling 400 MILES to watch her final drama exam - a year after he almost died from a brain haemorrhage

The heartwarming moment a drama student was surprised by her father when he turned up at her show a year after he almost died of a brain haemorrhage has been captured on camera. 

Gemma Mason was about to give her final year exam performance in London when her dad, who was supposed to be 400 miles away in Scotland appeared.

The budding actress, 20, was seen gasping before bursting into tears as her father Robin, 55, walked up to her using a walking stick outside the Italia Conti Academy.

Robin, who was expected to die as a result of the haemorrhage, can be heard telling his daughter: 'I didn't want to miss it' in the touching footage.

Gemma, from Ochiltree, East Ayrshire, went on to 'smash' the performance as her proud father watched.

She later posted the clip online with the caption: 'This time last year my dad fell very ill with a brain haemorrhage and we were told he wasn't going to make it.

'Well look at him now, he's come all the way to London to surprise me and to see me in my last third year production. I hope I have made you half as proud as you make me everyday.'

The video shows Gemma walking down from the steps of her academy and greeting loved ones who have come to see her.

After Gemma is handed different cards, the person filming said: 'Do you want to see my present?' and Gemma replies 'yeah'.

The woman filming then says, 'Tah-dah,' before Gemma turned around and gasps.

Her father appears with his arms wide open and using a walking stick just as Gemma bursts into tears and runs towards him.

With Gemma clearly delighted to see him, her dad says: 'I didn't want to miss it' and tells her 'not to ruin her makeup' before the big show. 

The video has racked up more than 600,000 views and has received over 32,000 likes.

Twitter users were also quick to comment on the emotional clip.

Elsewhere one follower commented: 'I bet you're proud of each other! I hope your final show went well.'

To which Gemma replied: 'Was amazing knowing I had my angel there to support me.'

Robin himself reshared the video expressing how delighted he was to see his daughter acting.

He said: 'I appreciate all the lovely comments so glad I made the trip to see my girl living her dream. It could have all been so different for our family.'
