  • Smith has insisted he was merely jealous of the breakfast and meant no harm

A British holidaymaker has accused singer Sam Smith of 'fat shaming' her after he appeared to mock the size of her breakfast.

Lauren Brooks, from London, sat on a table next to Smith and his partner Brandon Flynn as she enjoyed French toast in Los Angeles during a visit to the US last weekend.

But she was shocked to see the star had posted videos of her tucking into the food on his Instagram feed, along with captions she considers hurtful.

Two clips were posted online by the popstar, who has 9.6million followers.

The first clip, which was captioned 'good going', zooms in on the food. The second image, taken when Ms Brooks was nearly finished, is captioned 'going gone'.

Office worker Ms Brooks told The Daily Star: 'Anyone who knew me and followed him would recognise me right away.

'Imagine if I was a girl who was even slightly insecure about her weight. To have a celeb mock her for eating a meal would be horrendous.'

The clips - reportedly shot in Millie's Cafe on LA's Sunset Boulevard - have since been removed.

A representative of Mr Smith told MailOnline today that the star was simply jealous of the 'fabulous' looking breakfast and meant no offence.

British-born singer Smith, 26, has previously spoken out about weight-related bullying.

In 2015, he told Australian TV show A Current Affair: 'If someone calls you fat, that's something I want to change. That's something I can change so that affects me more.'

He said taunts about weight were worse than bullying over his sexuality, because that is something he is proud of.

Smith is in the US ahead of his tour of North America, which begins in Detroit tomorrow night.
