There are loads of rumours and rules around what you should and shouldn't do on an airplane.

Now an air hostess has debunked some of these myths - including whether you can drink the tap water in the bathroom and why the window shades must stay open during take off.

Stewardess Brodie Capron, who posts under TikTok as @brodie.capron, shared a video setting some of the facts straight.

The video has been liked over 56,000 times and followers have praised her for being honest about what goes on in the plane, with many saying they 'actually learnt something new' too.

In the quickfire TikTok video Ms Capron added that another thing she gets asked regularly is if 'everyone's pee and poo goes straight into the sky'
A big safety question that she gets asked a lot, she said, is concerning why people have to put their oxygen mask on before helping others

She started off the video by saying: 'Get un-ready with me as I answer some questions I get a lot being a flight attendant.'

Many were left wondering whether you should only drink bottled water on flights as rumours have been circulating on social media that the filter on planes is not cleaned regularly.

But Ms Capron clarified this, saying that the tap water on the airline she works at, Virgin Australia, is safe and clean to drink.

She said: 'Is the water safe to drink? Yes, it is. It's filtered, and it's clean.'

Ms Capron then went on to clear questions about why flight attendants need to know that shades are clear for take off and landing.

She clarified this by stating: 'Because you can see the engines and we can't so you've got to let us know if something happens.'

In the quickfire video she added that another thing she gets regularly asked is whether 'everyone's pee and poo goes straight into the sky'.

'No, it goes into a sewage tank and then it gets emptied once we land', she reveals.

A big safety question that she gets asked a lot, she said, is around why people have to put their oxygen mask on before helping others.

TikTok users thanked Ms Capron for debunking the myths. One social media user put: 'You have calmed my intrusive thoughts about opening the plane door while flying'

Ms Capron said: 'That's because you won't be very useful if you don't have oxygen on yourself.'

The stewardess also put people's minds at ease about a common question cabin crew get asked.

'Can the doors be open mid-flight? Look, unless you have superhuman strength, no.'

And with the baggage tax, many travelers may be left wondering why their suitcases need to be a certain size and weight, as the flight attendant said: 'That's because the overhead lockers can only hold so much weight.'

In debunking whether you are more likely to get drunk quicker on a plane, Ms Capron said: 'Yes, because of the lower oxygen percentage in the air.

'The effects of alcohol are greater.'

She also warned passengers at the end, saying: 'So make sure you make good choices when you're flying.'

While others had more questions they desperately needed answering, as one person wrote: 'This is actually interesting but one more question why are you only aloud a certain amount of liquid in sutcase (sic).'

And another person questioned: 'How come with checked baggage weight, if you go over that limit, how come you can put the clothes on instead it’s same weight on the plane????'
