Sir Keir Starmer told to 'get off the fence' over rail strikes that caused more misery for Brits

  • Tory Deputy Chairman Lee Anderson told Sir Keir Starmer to 'get off the fence'
  • It comes as Tories pointed out union Aslef was affiliated with the Labour Party

Sir Keir Starmer was challenged last night to 'get off the fence' over rail strikes that caused fresh misery yesterday.

The stoppage by the train drivers' union Aslef – the third to hit rail services last week – came on the same day as the FA Cup Final at Wembley, a Test Match at Lord's and the Epsom Derby.

Last night, the Tories pointed out that Aslef was affiliated to the Labour Party – and called on Sir Keir to condemn the strikes.

Tory Deputy Chairman Lee Anderson said: 'It's time for Slippery Starmer to get off the fence and condemn these strikes causing misery for commuters and businesses.

'But he's too under the thumb of his union bosses – the ones who really control the Labour Party.'

Aslef general secretary Mick Whelan warned the battle for more pay could go on for years, but the Government insists it has made a fair pay offer.

Shadow Transport Secretary Louise Haigh told Ministers: 'Sort this costly dispute out.'
