The most viewed homes for sale overseas by Britons virtual window shopping have been revealed, with traditional overseas property hotspots such as Spain and France failing to make the grade.

The two European countries have been firm favourites in the past among Britons looking to buy a holiday home overseas.

The property website declined to be drawn into the reasons why Ireland featured heavily other than saying that its 'scenic landscape and low population density also make it an attractive option for those looking to work remotely'.

The issue of Brexit may have played a role. Irish people previously living in Britain may have returned home, while some businesses have moved to Ireland to benefit from an EU base. This may have led to some workers relocating.

At the same time, there is the attraction of Ireland's Common Travel Area with the UK, which means there is still free movement between the two countries post Brexit.

Meanwhile, to enter Jamaica, British nationals do not need a visa and can usually stay for a maximum of 90 days.

However, there are still quarantine restrictions in place making travel challenging.

Tom Parker, of Zoopla, said: 'Properties in Ireland and Jamaica are proving particularly popular with overseas home hunters and dominate the most viewed list.

'Featured properties range from a historical 22 bedroom country house in Wexford, Ireland on sale for almost £2.3 million, to a modern ocean view villa in Jamaica for £370,950 that's a stone's throw from the beach.'
