Father-of-two Andy Meadley, 49, was getting ready for a caving trip when he noticed the breathtaking sight in Horton, Ribblesdale.
He was left gobsmacked when the angle of the sun turned the 2,372-foot peak into a replica of Uluru, or Ayers Rock.
The sandstone 1,142-foot Australian monolith is famous for its stunning red colour.
While Ingleborough's transformation was a trick of the light, Uluru is red due to the outer layer of the rock being exposed to water and oxygen. The iron minerals found inside the surface oxidise - or rust - which leads to its notable red colour.

Mr Meadley, from Leeds, said: 'Ayers Rock came to mind straight away. I've not been there but obviously seen photos of it.
'The photo was taken in Horton in Ribblesdale at 7:30am on Sunday. I was getting ready for a caving trip with a friend when we saw it.
'We are both members of the Craven Pothole Club that is based in Horton and we were staying at the club cottage.
'The reaction from friends and people who've see the photo has been amazing, they all think it looks like the Australian landmark.'
Ingleborough, as well as being a good caving area, is part of the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks walk.
Determined adventurers must climb Ingleborough along with other peaks Pen-y-ghent and Whernside in under 12 hours to successfully accomplish the challenge.
