'They're trying to bring suburbia to the countryside': David and Victoria Beckham's neighbour slams couple over numerous building plans at £6m Cotswolds home

David and Victoria Beckham have been slammed by a neighbour for making multiple planning applications to change the appearance of their £6m Cotswolds home.
In an email sent to West Oxfordshire District Council, the frustrated local accused the famous couple of 'trying to bring suburbia to the countryside'.
Over the past few months the footballer, 45, and Spice Girl, 46, have applied for permission for a lake and wine cellar as well as reportedly planning to add a sauna.

Other projects planned by the Beckhams, which they have permission for, include a secret tunnel, a security gatehouse and a 'super garage' for their car collection.
Now neighbour Michael Douglas has sent an email to the council to express his frustration and asked them to put a stop to any developments, reports The Sun.
Mr Douglas wrote: ‘What they appear to want is to bring suburbia into the countryside, if they had wanted all they have applied for why not find an estate which was big enough to accommodate all of this.’
He also questioned how any changes to the land would change the appearance of the entire area, which is mainly farmland.

In another striking paragraph Mr Douglas questioned why the Beckhams had moved to the Cotswolds if they planned on making changes.
He wrote: ‘If they don't want to live in the countryside in an open area of green fields why buy the properties in the first instance after all they have properties in Los Angeles, Florida, New York and London.’
To conclude his letter, Mr Douglas said: 'I believe the planning department need to draw a line and refuse this new planning application.'
In the planning documents, the Beckhams are said to have bought barns near to Soho Farmhouse. This caused Mr Douglas to question their want for privacy as the buildings are close to a public lane.

It was revealed that the plans to create a stretch of water spanning 3000 square meters have been blocked due to potential impact on the species in the area.
Wildlife experts are said to want to encourage great crested newts to breed in the water.
The Beckhams have also been told they cannot have floodlights around the lake as this could confused bats in the area.
Before any more decisions can be made, David and Victoria have to submit a five-year plan on how they can maintain the animals’ habitats.

The local council’s assistant biodiversity officer Esther Frizell-Armitage said in a report: ‘A comprehensive landscaping scheme will need to be prepared to detail the above habitat features that are to be created, along with a 5-year maintenance plan.'
The application for the lake, that would be four metres deep, also said that it would be surrounded by an array of wildflowers and trees.
The planning application stated that the aforementioned trees will include 'Hazel, Oak, Honeysuckle, Bramble, Sycamore, Wayfaring trees Yew, Hornbeam, Birch, Hawthorn, Crab apple, Wild cherry and Sorbus'.
The Heritage Impact Statement included in the submission stated that: 'The proposed lake (or large pond) will be broadly kidney-shaped and will be situated in the southern half of these grounds, in the lowest-lying part of the site.

'It will be approached and encircled by a mown grass path which will wend its way through newly created gently sloping grass meadowland.

They were recently granted permission to extend their sprawling property, as long as they begin the work within three years.
It also comes after reports they were building a three metre high hill in the garden of their Cotswolds estate to shield their home from a new holiday park.
David was said to want builders to raise the level of the ground to create earthworks around a tennis court.
According to The Sun, the couple are hoping the hill will prevent noise from the new park as well as keep their privacy from tourists.
A source told the publication: 'The hill will create more privacy for the house because it will create a visual and sound barrier to the works going on across the field.
'The area is so flat that at the moment they can see straight across. David and Victoria want to mitigate the impact the development will have on their home.'
