Franklin was an inspiration and friend to many. But, to everyone, she became known as "The Queen of Soul."

After learning of Aretha Franklin’s death Thursday after a battle with cancer, tributes poured in from actors, politicians and fans for the legendary songstress, whose six-decade career helped define American music.

Legendary singer and songwriter Smokey Robinson took to Twitter to celebrate his closest friend's life saying, "This morning my longest friend in this world went home to be with our Father. I will miss her so much but I know she’s at peace."
