In a major change to Irish education, secondary school students no longer “have to” study religion

The Minister for Education, Richard Bruton has confirmed the change in a circular released today, stating that it is a constitutional right for students who chose not to participate in religion class to be offered an alternative, meaningful program.

Community and ETB (Education and Training Board) schools will now offer students a different subject, should they opt out of studying religion.

Previously, students who chose not to partake in religious education — which required parental consent and approval from the school principle (sic) — were forced to sit at the back of the class or in the library with no alternative study offered. In many cases, these students were not allowed to complete coursework of any other subject while in the class, nor were they allowed wear earphones.

Groups such as Atheist Ireland have long campaigned on the issue of religious education in State schools for parents and students who are not religious.

The change will come into effect immediately in more than 300 multi-denominational second-level schools. …

Looks like the Madalyn Murray O’Hair phenomenon made it to the shores of Eire.

How long until Ireland and the rest of Western Europe will require Christian missionaries to convert the atheistic heathens ? Sad, twisted and evil.

The modern world ran over the Island with a vengeance. As late as the mid 1990s it was still a very much traditional place.

They can all convert to Islam as far as I am concerned. Try 100 years of Sharia Law and see how many Irish will flee from it just as they left because of British oppression 160 years ago.

I’m sure a lot of men will like it fine. Especially because it essentially enslaves women.

I don’t think movies like “Philomena” help matters much.

I know. Sadly, the USA fell so long ago when you look back.
See what we have reaped, since.

We are staring into our future and that of the West in Europe. Scriptural warnings and admonishments read clearer by the day now that time itself is speeding on.

Ireland culturally collapsed fast. I’ve come to the realization that a nation can recover from socialism & communism, but Western-style liberalism is deadly.

What nations have recovered from socialism?

Chile moved away from socialism. China has partly moved away from communism. Argentia & president Marci have moved to the right. Eastern Europe for the most part has moved away from the economics of communism/socialism.

Not true in those cases. Like Benito, they merely modify things to pacify the “masses”. Remember what it says in The Principles of Communism:
It is impossible, of course, to carry out all these measures at once. But one will always bring others in its wake. Once the first radical attack on private property has been launched, the proletariat will find itself forced to go ever further, to concentrate increasingly in the hands of the state all capital, all agriculture, all transport, all trade. All the foregoing measures are directed to this end; and they will become practicable and feasible, capable of producing their centralizing effects to precisely the degree that the proletariat, through its labor, multiplies the country’s productive forces.
None of those countries have really gone to the “right” (i.e. towards liberty) as we understand it, although some of the former Eastern bloc countries are trying but are constrained by the EU on one side and Putin’s Russia on the other. Especially not Red China, which just wrote Hsi Chin-p’ing’s Mao-like centralizing philosophy into the PRC’s constitution.

There has been movement, however small, and in the case of eastern Europe, measurable. My contention is that Western-style liberalism is in many respects worse....after all, most of the West is basically replacing their own populations with third worlders....that’s something you can’t EVER recover from.

“Western-style liberalism” is the Fabian version of socialism. Its symbol is the turtle, referencing the pace it adopts, gradually via government legislation and judicial activism; Khrushchev indicated this tactic in his “small doses of socialism” speech. There’s no real difference between it and the Marxist version, other than the intensity of attacks on private property, religion (hence morality), family and national borders; the goal is the same.

Whatever Western-style liberalism is...it is formidable. Unlike China, which will be China in 100 years we & our descendants will have been overwhelmed & replaced. That’s a kind of madness to shudder at.

People thought that China would be unchangeable before Mao took over too. They are becoming expansionist; Obama encouraged them to start going into the South China Sea with their artificial islands and acting aggressively towards US allies like the Philippines. (Of course, Obama had no problem appointing Maoists to his cabinet, until Fox News exposed him.)

The worst thing that we could have done with Red China was what Nixon did. That was one of the goals of the communists, listed in W. Cleon Skousen’s book, “The Naked Communist”.

I had a girlfriend from Ireland in the 90s. I told her about abortions of convenience and that many American women used it as a form of birth control. She reacted like I was describing an alien abduction.

We could have supported Hong Kong independence when it could have been done but now it’s China and part of the problem.

Ireland was one of the last Western nations to modernize. It all happened so fast. Dublin is starting to look like just anywhere else.
