Blizzard has revealed the 31st hero to join the ranks of Overwatch. Yesterday, the company released a short animated trailer that showcased Sigma, a Dutch astrophysicist who underwent a dramatic event that left him with the ability to control gravity. “Gravity is a harness,” Sigma says in the trailer. “I have harnessed the harness.” Following yesterday’s clip, today Blizzard fully unveiled Sigma through a first-look livestream on Twitch. And the character has something of a dark backstory. Here’s how the developer explains it:

Sigma is a kind and brilliant scientist who has been irreparably changed by an experiment gone wrong, gaining the ability to manipulate gravity in the process. During that tragic experiment Sigma sustained serious psychological damage, deemed a threat to humanity, and locked away for years in a secret government facility. He was eventually freed by Talon and used as a living weapon.

He also has an interesting sense of style.

More importantly for players, we also got some details on how Sigma will play. Here are his abilities:

• Hyper Spheres: Sigma launches two gravitic charges, which implode after a short duration, dealing significant damage in an area.
• Experimental Barrier: Sigma propels a floating barrier to a location of his choosing. He can recall the barrier at any time.
• Kinetic Grasp: Sigma stops incoming projectiles in midair, converting them into shields.
• Accretion: Sigma gathers a mass of debris and flings it at an enemy to knock them down.
• Gravitic Flux (Ultimate): Sigma manipulates gravity to lift nearby enemies into the air and slam them back down.

Sigma follows the release of the combat medic Baptiste in February, and his impending debut comes at a busy time for Blizzard’s multiplayer shooter. Last week, the developer recently a new “role queue” feature that allows players to better focus on specific characters and roles, and earlier this year, the creative Overwatch Workshop debuted to early success. Meanwhile, in the world of e-sports, last week, Blizzard also detailed how home-and-away matches will work in the Overwatch League next year.

Sigma is available today on the PTR, or public test realm, of Overwatch on PC. He’ll likely be available for all players soon after.
