Toyota temporarily suspends self driving car program

Toyota has temporarily suspended its self-driving car program after Uber fatal self-driving car accident. it would t suspend testing of its ‘Chauffeur’ autonomous driving system on US roads.

Toyota (TM) had been road-testing robot vehicles in Michigan and California. The number of self-driving vehicles being tested by Toyota was “small” and didn’t specify how long the suspension would last.

Toyota earlier this month said it planned to invest up to 300 billion yen ($2.8 billion) with the goal of developing its self-driving car capabilities.

Uber Technologies was talking about installing its self-driving system in Toyota vehicles as the U.S. ride-hailing firm seeks to sell its autonomous driving technology to outside companies, the Nikkei reported on Friday. They were negotiating a possible deal for Toyota to use Uber’s automated driving technology in one of the automaker’s minivan models.
