Gumroad will not change salary based on location of worker (twitter.com/shl)

More and more we'll see a few companies like these make the decision to reward value added instead of playing CoL games to try to squeeze the bottom line.

In a business where you can cash in several times the cost of an employee in profits and where some hires are literally 10x as compared to the average engineer, it makes absolutely no sense not to try to get the best.

With remote, that just means they can get the best and brightest from anywhere in the world to apply there first.

Oh so Gumroad is back to being more than a one-person show? (https://marker.medium.com/reflecting-on-my-failure-to-build-... "the skeleton crew fizzled from five to one") That's pretty cool that it's back on the up and up.

I noticed there is this new VC or (pseudo public figure) cartel between this guy, Naval, Alred, and many more. They always retweet each other and upvote/promote each other’s post. This guy is shameless self promoter. His posts got upvoted here many times. Don’t mistake for a minute thinking this is some hobo doing millions. He is well connected with VCs and self promoters like Naval who like giving out platitudes.

I'll bite, what's wrong with Naval? He's got decent content.

So SF salaries went down I presume?

This might hold out for a while but eventually it will not make economic sense to pay silicon valley wages to people living in decided non-silicon valley income areas. It might not be fair but now that employees don't have to be physically in the office, it allows companies to drive down the wages. Enjoy it while you can.

Maybe a little but also: that's better than pretending people have different market value when they move locations

Why would they have to? Not all the best engineers are on Silicon Valley, and many who are would gladly move out.

Sure, they won't hire the ones who are there and not willing to move out but that's probably a small pool compared to the rest of the world.
