I will spare you the obvious joke about tossing coins to Geralt of Rivia, because for today only, you’re going to be able to hang out with everyone’s favorite freelance monster hunter without paying a dime. The PC game that started it all—taking us down an incredible fantasy path that led us to that bangin’ bard hit—is free for the taking.

There are only two caveats to this deal, and they’re both easy to manage. First, you’ll have to have a free account with GOG.com. That takes all of five minutes to set up, and it’s worth it for the occasional free games and generally decent deals you’ll find on legacy games that have been tweaked to run seamlessly on modern PCs.

Second, you’ll have to accept the fact that you’re getting the very first Witcher game that was ever created. Yes, it’s the 2007 title, so the graphics and gameplay won’t be quite as lush or scintillating as the most recent title in the franchise The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

There’s one silver lining to this, however. The free offer is technically for the game’s enhanced version, a remake that launched one year later and dropped in tons of extra monsters to kill, a bunch of graphical fixes, two brand-new adventures to play, and the opportunity to mix and match languages for the game’s subtitles and voices. See, playing The Witcher is basically like a more fun, monster-slaying version of Duolingo.

Talking about The Witcher gives me an excuse to post some of developer CD Projeckt Red’s incredible trailers for the franchise—practically indistinguishable from Blizzard’s work, I’d say, for their storytelling and visual appeal.

I wouldn’t say I was very blown away by The Witcher’s first trailer, but the trailer for the game’s sequel, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, is probably one of my all-time favorites:

Frankly, the gameplay in the various Witcher games does tend to follow a similar pattern, so I don’t feel bad at all posting trailers that showcase a much more beautiful version of what you’ll be doing throughout your adventures in the illusively named “Continent.”

You’ll have until 6 p.m. (ET) to claim your free copy of The Witcher on GOG.com—it’s a one-day deal. I wouldn’t dawdle. However, if you miss out, the game costs all of $10 normally. This isn’t the biggest savings we’ve ever seen for a game, but free is free. Given how many hours you’ll sink into The Witcher (and its sequels), and how many more months we’ll all be stuck at home thanks to COVID-19, I think that taking a trip through a sprawling role-playing game is exactly what you need right now.

And while you’re at it, don’t forget to install a third-party mod (or a few) to make this older game look and run even better.
