So, I'm still slowly unpacking from our move from Buffalo to Arizona this past July & I discovered an old shoebox full of photos inside another box. And while going through it I found a few old photos that I've never posted before that I thought some of you might find interesting.

The first is a shot of me sparring with Hector Camacho for the first time before training camp had moved from Buffalo's old Singer's Gym to the Memorial Auditorium, which was the site of Camacho's fight with Roque Montoya back in April of 1985.

cool pictures...you must have some great stories..

you're not shorter than duran are you?

Incredible. Do you have any photos with RJJ?
Nope. Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting or working with RJJ. I wish I had though.
Of that era, he's one of my biggest regrets to not have met. Along with James Toney & Nigel Benn.
I did meet Bernard Hoplins early in his career though. But I didn't get a photo with him because he was just another preliminary fighter like me at the time.
In fact, I almost filled in as an opponent for Hopkins on a card in Rochester, NY back in 1989 when he was just 4-1 but I was too light. He'd have outweighed me by about ten pounds. So, they found someone else for him by the name of Mercado & I was left without a fight.

No, he's 5'7" & I'm 5'8" but he's wearing boots with heels in my pics with him while I'm in flat Chuck Taylor's.
This shot is a bit closer to our actual heights but he still looks a shade taller than me. LOL.

Livingstone Bramble, the first top contender ( soon to be world champion ) that I ever sparred with in preparation for his first fight with "Boom Boom" Mancini in Buffalo, NY in June 1984.

Awesome photos. I HATED Bramble back then.

Good Lawddddd. Highly highly glorious

@sweetviolenturg great stuff as usual. How was Larry when you dealt w/ him? He came up to the hof one time years ago and wanted to charge x amount for pics then they told him it wasn't that kinda thing so he apparently flipped his shit and bailed, lol. Allegedly. He didn't charge you for that pic did he? Jk jk.

Larry always came across as an asshole, just last night I was listening to an interview with his old publicist, Flo Anthony, she didn't say anything really negative other that he was always in her face bossing her around and compared it to how much easier it was to work for Ali. Apparently, Soaul Mamby was a client and he lost, Holmes spotted her crying afterwards and said he needed that kind of loyalty. I never liked him but I think some of the attitude was just bluff and as he's gotten older he's nicer. One great thing is he took care of his business and is still rich so far as I know.

No, not at all. LOL.
Larry's Larry. My first encounter with him was when he had me in his training camp for a week to spar with his brother Mark who was an unbeaten middleweight at the time ( 1985 ) & he treated me really well. He was cheap with what he paid me but that was Larry for you. He'd never part with a dime if he could get away with a nickel.

Haha, yeah I was just joking w/ ya. Gotcha, makes sense. Sounds like a unique individual, his frugality seems to have stayed w/ him through the years, haha.

NO! I definitely never sparred with Tyson or Foreman. I fought from welterweight to middleweight so I wasn't getting in there & getting hit by any heavyweights. The closest I ever came to sparring a world-class heavyweight was when I was in WBA heavyweight champion Greg Page's camp sparring with welterweight contender Louis Howard & their trainer Janks Morton asked me to get in the ring with Page & have a move around with him. In other words, I used my speed to try to catch him along the ropes & cut the ring off on him, etc. I was throwing shots at him but ( thank God ) he wasn't firing back at me. LOL. I was durable & I had a good chin but I wasn't anywhere near heavyweight tough.

Greg Page & me in preparation for his title defense against Tony Tubbs.

OK. Really quick version.
Emile was a great guy & a fantastic trainer & cornerman.
He was one of the nicest guys ever in the boxing game but you didn't cross him or piss him off because by all accounts I've heard over the years as good as he was in the ring ( he was a five-time world champion ) he was even tougher outside of it. I once saw him get pissed at & chase Hector Camacho through a hotel lobby because Camacho had his then-four or five-year-old son sneak up on Emile & smack him in the grapes. Emile didn't beat Camacho up when he caught him ( Hector had a fight the following night ) but he did give him a couple of swift kicks in the ass. LOL.
