https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/17/nyregion/alex-jones-sandy-hook.htmlLawyers representing several families of victims of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School said in court documents that the legal team acting for Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist and host of the Infowars website, sent them child pornography, which they reported to the F.B.I.
The families have filed a defamation suit against Mr. Jones, who has spread the false claim that the shooting in Newtown, Conn., was an intricate hoax.
In a filing on Monday in a Connecticut court, lawyers for the families said consultants reviewing documents submitted by Mr. Jones’s lawyers as part of the suit had found an image that “appeared to be child pornography.”
Mr. Jones learned about the accusation earlier as part of the discovery process. On his show on Friday he forcefully denied any involvement in the material in question being sent and accused Chris Mattei, one of the lawyers representing the Sandy Hook families, of trying to frame him.
“You’re trying to set me up with child porn,” Mr. Jones said. “One million dollars to put your head on a pike.”
As much as I loathe Jones and his actions in the Sandy Hook case, and as tempting as it might be to try to tie this to when he got caught spanking it to t-girl porn after spreading hate against that community for years, I don't think it's the same thing here. It appears like his lawyers basically tried to bury the opposition lawyers in metadata, including random emails that had never even been opened, and apparently one of them contained child pornography. That said, Jones isn't really doing himself any favors with the way he's talking about how he doesn't enjoy having sex with children (it comes across the same way as Trump bragging about how "stable" he is) and he's coming dangerously close to incitement and illegal threats by offering $1 million dollars to put opposing lawyer Chris Mattei's head on a pike. Mattei isn't setting him up, Jones should be blaming his own legal team for not doing due diligence before sending this stuff off. I'm not a legal expert, so would appreciate some of the lawyers here chiming in if they could.
