It's crazy how much MMA takes place against the fence! I mean seriously how often do you see a Chael sonnen or GSP blast double. How come nobody shoots in the middle of the cage?

maybe because nobody gives a shit about takedowns?

Daley did last night against MVP, shot eight feet away and still landed one.

Askrens wrestling is weirdly underrated. He will have guys fully sprawled and still get takedowns. He would do that shit in collegiate matches too, askren just has that wtf strength that you cant explain. Like he got old man strength at 22. Its alot of technique but he gets TD in positions that dont make sense if youve been in them before.

Games evolved too far for that Kevin Randleman shoot from halfway across the ring era. Gotta get in closer and set that shit up lol

Just not getting the right people for it. Jordan Burroughs would likely be able to secure a lot of blast doubles in the UFC (weather he can fight or not who knows) but he could land his blast doubles.

You would see more if Sherk hadn't retired that guy had a crazy double

Maybe, or maybe he eats a knee when he fights the better guys?

fighters have gotten better at defending those sorts of takedowns & MMA wrestling has evolved to take place up against the fence

Wrestlers wake up with cold sweats thinking about this poorly set up takedown

But, seriously, the game has changed wrestling/BJJ doesn't have that element of surprise as it used to fighters will most likely recognise a takedown from long range even enough to keep it in the clinch and then wrestlers need to start working from there
Takedowns in the middle of the cage need to be timed when the other fighters is striking and their weight is too far forward and they pretty much run into it

Never actually seen askren before, wow

That is crazy, he is a lot of fun in my opinion. A fight like Robbie should be fun for all, either he makes opponents look stupid (like usual) or he is going to get pummeled with little room for anything in between.

Gregor has really good open mat takedowns. Mendes had a sick blast double back in the day too

Sooner or later most likely, but he shoots with his head coming into the sternum high enough it would take good timing. If you are trying to line up a knee like that you better get it, because it will leave you planted on your back if you miss.

DC has some great ones, vs barnet, hendo, and gus, he's not shooting for a duble but it's not against the fence
