Is 40 y/o Stipe done? Not necessarily at fighting, but at being a top dog HW?

We know he'll fight this year...but he'll be 41 in 7 months. Was his KO loss to Ngannou it for him? Gotta feel like 2023 is a crucial point in his career. Will he come back and compete for a HW title? What is a reasonable expectation for 40, almost 41, year old Stipe in 2023?

There's still alot of guys he can beat but he will never wear the belt again.

We can only guess, it's HW and in the higher divisions plenty of fighters have had success into their 40's (DC, Romero, Werdum, Glover, Randy, etc.).

He's still got power to put anyone's lights out, and is one of the best wrestlers in the division. The only question is his chin which was pretty good in the past, but he's been popped twice now.

So Stipe has been undefeated for almost 2 years now. He should get a title shot.

It was a brutal KO and Stipe was starting to look old anyways, especially in the 3rd DC fight. His days as a top HW are done, but he still may get an immediate shot at the Jones/Gane winner due to lack of better options.

I tell myself that Jones is old (35)...and then I forget that Stipe will be 41 this year and I'm like "yeah...Jones is just fine".

Do you think they have Stipe fight before the Jones/Gane winner?

that would be some BS if Stipe got a title shot after not fighting for 2 years and not winning in ages

Stipe has been past his prime for years now. And also been very inactive.

He isn't winning any more fights in the ufc at this point.

Stipe was on Ariel's show saying he wants to fight again and wanted to fight Jones, but UFC decided Gane would fight him instead. So now Stipe is waiting for whoever wins that fight.

It's also time in the sport and fight miles.

Stipe started in 2010 and had 24 fights. (18 in UFC)
Jones started in 2008 and has 28 fights (23 in UFC)

Generally guys only perform at the top level for a max ten years, Stipe was looking old his last couple and Jones would be really bucking the trend if he can still perform.

I thought he was done after the Cormier fight and his chin would be shot but he came back in the rematch.

Stipe's big issue is he never f'n fights. He thinks he should be entitled to a title shot the rest of his life. We have no idea where he stands because he just sits out and waits for a title shot. I want to see him fight guys like Blaydes, Pavlovich, Lewis, etc. to see where he stands. Outside of DC, he's never even fought a wrestler. I'd love to see how he reacts to someone trying to take him down.

I have so much respect for Stipe, but 2 years with no activity, a potential fight vs Gane in his prime (after beating Jones) or Jones at HW, I just don't see how he wins in his potential next fight.

That’s literally what Jones and Cejudo are getting. It’s about names and draw. It sucks, but is normal.

Any fight Stipe would have against anyone at HW would just be the entire crowd waiting with baited breath for him to get KOd by a whiffed jab. Even if he was decent.

but I can understand those two since they have won a bunch prior to that and both really left over contract disputes
