About those Electric vehicles...
Now that costs for Electric vehicles nearing petrol prices levels..
It will likely drive many if not most on not buying them.

In a report it states that Electric vehicle charging costs near at petrol prices.
Could anyone imagine the pricing once this system gets installed into every new houses or apartment residential complexes?

Cost of using electric car charging point in UK up 42% since May

"For those that have already made the switch to an electric car or are thinking of doing so, it remains the case that charging away from home costs less than refuelling a petrol or diesel car, but these figures show that the gap is narrowing as a result of the enormous increases in the cost of electricity," RAC spokesman Simon Williams said.

How much is it to replace a battery? I don't just mean money, I mean in ecological costs too.

The cost of the battery is $5,000. or much more depending on the vehicle. Then labor at about $200. a hour.

Then there is the ecological impact of the product of the new battery and the recycling of the old battery.

It's so pathetic how you guys root against progress.

This isn't the win you think it is
Hey brainwashed lefty, pointing out facts isn’t rooting against what lefty’s view as progress. Those fucking EV batteries cause more environmental damage than any modern car could in 20 years.

What's pathetic is the progressive mindframe that holds no caution or common sense, just delirious ideas about utopic principles that are nothing like they think.

Progress is a natural thing. Forcing it along without any real intelligent thinking is disastrous (very similar to raising children fyi)

Edit - username also does not check out. Progs love fatties.

The biggest sell to me for an electric car would be having solar panels on the roof of your house and charging the vehicle at home using the power generated.
Problem is you send the energy back to the grid and even with the most expensive generator are left no more than hours worth of charges in a black out. Also as Costs go up kw usage your panels you dropped $40k for might not even come close to breaking even

At equal cost electric cars will be better for some people and IC cars for others. Each has benefits.

Why send the power back to the grid? I’m no expert but my mom runs her place in FL for several days off of her batteries if they lose power.

If you told progressives that they could save the world by boring a hole into the hull of their boat, they're gonna sink the entire thing faster than you can make them realize the stupidity of their endeavor.

It depends how much energy your houses uses. Also FL is like the hottest state in the country with direct sunlight. The homes by me in suburbia can get at max a day if you only power one floor.

The biggest sell to me for an electric car would be having solar panels on the roof of your house and charging the vehicle at home using the power generated.

The math on that rarely works out. Solar panel efficiency is around 20% at best. Total solar energy available is about 1kW/square metre if you're in southern California at noon on a sunny day, which means you'll get 200W/m^2 in a best case scenario, or 5m^2 per kW. Remember that number.

Your shiny new Tesla has a battery capacity of 100kWh. Let's say you want to fully charge it in a single day, so let's give you 10 hours of noontime California sunshine. You'll still need at least 50 square metres of panels (about 540 square feet) to provide enough juice for that, this is already a pretty sizable installation. In the real world you don't get 10 hours of desert noon sunshine, we have mornings, evenings, clouds, and places at higher latitudes where the sunshine isn't as intense. And unless you really splurged, your solar panels aren't going to track the sun so the efficiency goes down the drain outside of peak hours. Depending on where you live the solar panel installation will need to be at least 2-3 times as large as the best case scenario. Then add in conversion & charging losses and you'll need another 20-25% on top of that.

Bottom line. You could cover the average house with solar panels and it still won't give you enough juice to charge an EV in a day. Fully charging an EV takes about as much juice as running an electric clothes dryer for 20-24 hours.

California is a making a mistake by banning all diesel vehicles.
This decision is going to cost them economically.
