I used to have one a few years ago, which I used quite often. But I don't have that one any more so I got a new one a few days ago, a 6.5l model. It's a good time of year to get one going as well with the autumn setting in. I made a basic recipe last night: diced steak, potatoes, carrots, onion, garlic and beef stock. I chop the potatoes quite small and simmer for half an hour before putting them in the slow cooker. I don't know if that's necessary but that's how I've always done it. I also chop up the carrots, onion and garlic quite small and fry them and the steak before putting them in the cooker. It is 2lbs of steak and 3 big potatoes, a lesser amount of carrots so it should keep me going for several days. I will have my first portion this evening, hope it's nice!

Anyone else use a slow cooker? It slowly simmers your meal if you aren't familiar with them, I usually cook my meals for 8 hours on low but if you put it on high it's quicker. Makes very tasty and filling casserole type meals.

They're always something that just take up space in my kitchen and rarely get used. I can cook just about anything in a normal large stove pot and achieve a very similar result.

It's alright. It is only good for cooking when you aren't going to be home or want to sleep. I used to cook with it but then I realized it's faster to use a pot. It's good for meal prep though. You prepare it before you sleep and you wake up to a lot of prepped food.

I want a pressure cooker though.

I prefer to do the same kinds of long-braised foods in an Insta-Pot, nowadays.

Still have 2 crock pots. They are used mostly for pot-lucks at work.

My wife uses a slow cooker for roasts and bbq chicken, it is very good. Really you can make so much with slow cookers. Meatballs, soups, cheese dip, chili etc

use it erryday
im doing IF
so i make a soup of meat and vegetables
i just throw them in around lunch time and eat after i get off work
easy and pretty good plus i got some sauces and stuff from america, so tobasco and hatch chiles just make it more tolerable

I have never had one always thought about it. When i lived with my buddy for a bit him and his wife would get it going overnight and it was torture the smell would wake me up and I'd be starving. lol i had to ask them not to do it at night anymore.

I had some and it was nice! A success, I'm pleased. The only thing is I forgot the Worcestershire sauce, would have added a bit of tang. And I should have made some Yorkshire puddings too.

Next time I might make a pork chop one with some peppers.

I love my crock pot. Last thing I used it for was chili

I only use crock pots to keep food warm. I have a collection of insta pot pressure cookers i use for everything that requires a pot.

You should get it. It is pretty cheap now.

This the insta pots have taken over

I prefer to slow cook in the Weber to be honest, though sometimes I might smoke the meat for 2 hours and then put in liquid in the slow cooker. Then again sometimes I'll just boat in the Weber with stock/beer and cover with foil and you get a quicker result.

Slow cookers are for lazy cooks, but yes they certainly can be useful.
