Archie and Sabrina’s secret relationship gets an expose in an upcoming mini-arc penned by Mariko Tamaki, with art by Jenn St-Onge. This is the first time the duo has crossed over, despite being part of the same shared universe.

“This is a series of iconic characters, but this is definitely a twist, which this series also does well,” writer Mariko Tamaki told Polygon. “I was working with Nick Spencer, so with this vision, and it was super fun to just play with that. Also I have the unbelievable Jenn St-Onge working with me, and her illustrations are dreamy.”

After Nick Spencer took over from Mark Waidin issue #700, readers learned that during the summer vacation that happened between the two arcs, Archie and Sabrina pursued a secret relationship.

Though Betty and Veronica’s meddling almost caused Archie to spill the beans, the stalwart freckled hero remained loyal to his new girlfriend. The upcoming mini-arc reveals just how the summer romance began.

“I think Archie feels stress in almost every relationship and this might end up being a chill turn of events,” said Tamaki. “Or not. I mean, you know, witchcraft.”

Though the relationship is being kept a secret for now, one very important person in Sabrina’s life knows — and approves.

“Salem is guardedly optimistic,” said Tamaki.
