VR title Apex Construct sees a surge in sales after getting mistaken for Apex Legends

Fast Travel Games has seen interest in its VR game soar as players mistake it for Respawn's Apex Legends.

Andreas Juliusson, marketing and communications manager at Fast Travel Games, has taken to Reddit to share a funny story that has seen the devs' VR game sell more units in China in seven days than for the entirety of 2018, and a 4000% increase in visits to the Steam store page for its demo.

The reason for its sudden success? Apex Legends.

"As you are most likely aware, the free-to-play, Battle Royale game Apex Legends was released last week. Not only does the name resembles our own VR game Apex Construct, the logos are also strikingly similar (ours came first though!)"

Apex Construct is a single-player, action-adventure VR title exclusive to EA Origin on PC, and available on PSVR.

The Steam page is purely for a demo, and despite being priced at £24.99/ $29.99, it seems that players in China have been snapping it up, in a case of mistaken identity.

"Apparently people are prepared to buy what they think is Apex Legends for $29.99, even thought it's a free-to-play title... Most likely these units will be refunded, but our books look pretty good at the moment," Juliusson added.

Through no fault of its own, Fast Travel Games is now finding Apex Construct on the receiving end of a multitude of negative user reviews from Chinese players who think they've been scammed. The Steam Community team is looking into the situation so hopefully the developer should get the matter resolved soon.
