Marvel Snap wins Best Mobile Game

Ben Brode and his team of ex-Hearthstone devs will certainly feel vindicated today on the back of winning the Best Mobile Game award just a couple of months after officially launching their game. Beating out massive titles like Apex Legends Mobile and Genshin Impact, this vote of confidence from the industry will only help to propel Marvel Snap to greater heights, with more exciting content set to arrive in 2023. For our thoughts, check out our Marvel Snap review.

Kirby takes the Best Family Game award

People often forget games that come out early in the year by the time the Game Awards roll around, but fortunately, that isn’t the case for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. The debut 3D Switch adventure took home the Best Family Game award, helping to cement the star surfer’s latest solo adventure as one of his greatest. To see how we got on in the pink ball of loves out-of-this-world adventure, see our Kirby and the Forgotten Land review.

Splatoon 3 paints the awards red

Despite tough competition from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Multiversus, Splatoon 3 picked up the Best Multiplayer Game award, adding to a stellar showing for Nintendo across the board. It’s no surprise to us though, with our Splatoon 3 review rating the ink-shooter a solid 9/10.

Bayonetta 3 is the action champion

Bayonetta 3 strutted its stuff and passed Sifu, Neon White, and the latest CoD title to take home the Best Action Game prize. After all the hubbub surrounding the development of the title, it will be some relief to those involved in production to know the work was worth it after all (if our Bayonetta 3 review didn’t already prove that!)

Mario + Rabbids wins Best SIM/Strategy Game

The unlikely combination of Mario + Rabbids continues to thrive after the release of Sparks of Hope, with the tactical title picking up the Best SIM/Strategy Game award over games like Dune: Spice Wars and Two Point Campus. As another title that we gave 9/10 in our Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope review, we’re glad to see another deserving winner.

Zelda still hotly anticipated

A permanent fixture on the nominations, and with Elden Ring now out of the way, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom took home the Most Anticipated Game award with little shock or surprise. Beating out titles like Starfield and Final Fantasy 16, this win shows the impact Breath of the Wild and the Switch as a platform has had on the industry. If you were one of the many anticipating your letter to Hogwarts instead, take a browse through our Hogwarts Legacy characters guide, or if you just can’t wait for Link, check out the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom release date.

Player’s Voice award goes to Genshin Impact

After big campaigns from all the nominated titles, Genshin Impact picked up the Player’s Voice award, a big win for fans of the iconic gacha title. Many anticipated the award would go to either Sonic Frontiers or Elden Ring, so it’s a real boon for Mihoyo to claim the prize. Speaking of prizes, we’ve got plenty of Genshin Impact codes if you are thinking about trying out the title for the first time.
