Rafa Benitez believes his former club Liverpool will finally end their 30-year wait for a league title at the end of this season.

Jurgen Klopp's side lead Leicester by eight points at the top of the table and are 14 ahead of champions Manchester City.

The 18-time champions of England have not lifted the league title since 1990, but the Spaniard believes their drought will come to an end in 2020.

He said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football: 'They are very consistent so normally you win games and lose some games but it is very difficult for them to lose games.

'I think they have been signing the right players the last years but spending in the right positions and they have a good balance.

'It is not just they have good defenders, but they have the balance, the keeper, the defenders, the full-backs, the strikers have the ability and the midfielders have the balance.

'It is very difficult to counter-attack or create something. We tried with Newcastle United but we couldn’t go behind them, they were faster than our players.'

Liverpool made it seven wins in a row with victory at Bournemouth on Saturday, and have dropped points only once this season, in a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.

Benitez is one of four Liverpool managers in the Premier League era to have led them to a second-placed finish, back in 2009.
