Mauricio Pochettino catches up with old pal Diego Maradona before Argentina Superliga clash as sacked Tottenham boss continues to enjoy time off in home country

Mauricio Pochettino has continued to make the most of his rare time off from football by dropping in to catch up with old friend Diego Maradona.

Pochettino has returned to Argentina to spend time with those closest to him after he was sacked by Tottenham last month following a nightmare start to the Premier League season.

And over the weekend, Pochettino linked up with legend Maradona before an Argentina Superliga clash between Gimnasia and Cordoba.

The Argentine duo were pictured warmly embracing before posing for photos together at Gimnasia, where Maradona manages, on Sunday. 

Pochettino was photographed last week for the first time since his Tottenham sacking, visiting his first club Newell's Old Boys - whom he played for between the years of 1989 and 1994.

Newell's Old Boys is where Pochettino first met Argentine icon Maradona - the two were team-mates when the former was just 21 years of age back in 1993. 

Maradona took over at strugglers Gimnasia back in September and his time with the club hasn't been without controversy. 

Just last month, Maradona announced he was leaving the club but only two days later, he performed a spectacular U-turn.

Meanwhile, Pochettino recently refused to rule out a move to former club Tottenham's arch-rivals Arsenal ahead of his return to England and management.

Pochettino, who was swiftly replaced by Jose Mourinho at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is currently weighing up his next managerial move. 

Pochettino appeared unmoved when the vacant position at German giants Bayern Munich was suggested to him, but seemed to raise a half-smile when Arsenal were mentioned.

Speaking of the shock surrounding his Spurs exit, Pochettino told TyC Sports: 'It's important to have a moment of calm to lower the decibels and find the energy to take on a new project, and we'll see where that is.

'I'll return to London next week.'
