Tottenham 1-0 Burnley: Mauricio Pochettino avoids being drawn into talk of Premier League title challenge

Spurs are five points off leaders City after the dramatic victory over Burnley

Mauricio Pochettino was reluctant to talk Tottenham's title chances despite being just five points off Premier League leaders Manchester City.

This comes after Spurs secured a dramatic 1-0 win over Burnley at Wembley on Saturday thanks to Christian Eriksen's stoppage-time goal.

The win also saw the Argentine reach his own personal milestone as he became the first Spurs boss to win 100 Premier League games.

He achieved the feat in 169 games - ten games quicker than Arsene Wenger did at Arsenal.

It has led some to believe Spurs could challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for this season's crown, including former player Ryan Mason.

And when asked about Spurs' title credentials, Pochettino did not outright say they were in the race but said his players' performances against Burnley and in the Champions League shows there is a lot of belief in camp.

Speaking to talkSPORT's Ian Abrahams, Pochettino said: "Yes I always believed [that Spurs would score]. It was really tough but I think they really believed.

"Football always rewards the teams that really try and believe and I think it was very late but football rewarded us.

"I don’t want you to twist my words! It’s important to believe after our first three games in the Champions League that it would be possible to qualify but all is possible in football.

"Of course we are going to compete with massive sides like Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal but football is all about belief."

Next up for Poch and his players is their Carabao Cup quarter-final tie at north London rivals Arsenal on Wednesday night - a game you can listen to live on talkSPORT.

And Pochettino insisted his players would be up for the game but claimed the Gunners had a fitness advantage going into the game.

He added: "It’s a cup and of course it’s a derby. They have a little bit of an advantage because they have been able to rest players over the last two weeks playing in the Europa League.

"We have a lot of injured players but we are going to compete. It’s always big to play the derby."
