Manchester United fans have given emphatic backing to the signing of Christian Eriksen after the midfielder agreed verbally to join the club on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old made an excellent return with Brentford last season, picking up five goal contributions in 11 games in his first competitive football since collapsing on the pitch and suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

He also returned to the Danish national side, scoring twice in six appearances this year.

Most fans were thrilled at the verbal agreement Eriksen has given the club and saw it as an excellent piece of business. One tweeted: 'Very happy with Eriksen. Quality player, top professional and great guy! He’s the personality you need around the team. Welcome to Manchester United, Christian!!! Danish Magic.'

Another said: 'Why am I so happy with this Eriksen deal? Glory to God. No transfer can make me more happy this season, not even de Jong.'

Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong did look certain to join United, although Chelsea are now thought to be a preparing a bid should the deal fall through.

Other supporters focused on what Eriksen's signing will mean for the squad, with one tweeting: 'Think this a hugely shrewd move from MUFC, which is not something we say often. Clearly still has what it takes and gives us another option ahead of the new season.'

The sentiment was shared by another fan, who said: 'Happy with that Eriksen signing, on a free it’s defo a no brainier [sic]. Hopefully give Bruno the kick up the a*** he needs most weeks.'

There were some, however, who felt Eriksen was too old to be a top signing, with one tweet reading: 'Honestly I am not a fan of this particular signing, Eriksen is too old for EPL and a rebuilding team', but the majority of fans seem excited about the Danish star.
