Portsmouth, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace have led tributes for Jamie Vincent after the former defender passed away at the age of 46.

Vincent made 447 league appearances during his career, where he also spent time at Swindon, Huddersfield and Derby County, as well as a number of other Football League clubs.

The Eagles released a short statement on Twitter on Tuesday night, which read: 'We are saddened to learn about the passing of Jamie Vincent. Our thoughts go out to Jamie's friends and family at this sad time'.

Pompey also paid tribute to their former defender. 'We're devastated to hear that former Pompey defender Jamie Vincent has passed away,' they said in a statement. 'Rest in peace, Jamie.'

And another former club Aldershot said: 'Aldershot Town Football Club are deeply saddened to learn former defender Jamie Vincent has passed away.

Bournemouth tweeted: 'Everyone at the club is desperately saddened to hear that former #afcb defender and Wembley finalist Jamie Vincent has passed away. Our thoughts are with Jamie's family and friends at this time. May he rest in peace'.

A number of Vincent's former Cherries team-mates also took to Twitter to pay tribute to the 46-year-old.

Matt Holland posted: 'Heartbreaking news today. Taken from us far too soon. Thoughts and prayers with your family. x RIP JAMIE'.

Steve Fletcher tweeted: 'Absolutely devastated to hear the passing of former team mate and fans favourite Jamie Vincent.

'One of the finest left backs in the clubs history. Great player but more importantly a truly great person. Always saw the positive in everyone, funny and caring. We all loved him'.

Swindon Town added: 'Swindon Town Football Club are incredibly saddened to learn of the passing of former defender, Jamie Vincent.

'Our thoughts go out to all of Jamie's family and friends at this incredibly sad time. RIP.'

Vincent won promotion to League One with Swindon in 2007 and featured in all three divisions in the EFL.
