I appreciate the need for caution, but it does seem like we dodged this bullet. Isn't this week supposed to be the worst of it in NYC? And we ended up having enough ventilators. I keep hearing about people being afraid we're going to run out of them here or there, but I haven't heard a single story yet of any hospital actually running out and having to triage people and let some die. And if that were going to happen, it would be happening now.

Normally 25--30 people in New York City die at home every day. Currently 200--300 people in NYC are dying at home every day.

And we're just getting started. Deaths lag 2--3 weeks behind infection. And some states are not practicing social distancing.

Governors, especially the one in New York, are filling the leadership void not shown at the federal level. Ordinary citizens, most of us anyway, are similarly behaving as responsibly as we can recognizing the fix we're in. ("Sad" that the typical citizen shows more sense and civic responsibility and knowledge than the president.)

And has been much discussed, people aren't being tested or attributed to coronavirus that are positive.

How many people are dying of C19 that haven't been tested because there aren't enough tests? They're not tested for it after they die, so the numbers are likelier on the low side. As it is, it's now the leading cause of death in the U.S.

Having the virus makes it less likely you'll survive other medical complications.   A cancer patient with a good chance of recovering is probably going to die if he gets the virus.  So labeling it a covid-19 death is correct.

So let me give you an Analogy.

The Mayor of a town decides to disband the fire department because he thinks that because the likelihood hood of catching on fire is small.

So an arson comes to town and sets fire to 1 house and an entire neighborhood is lost in flames.

However, it is pointed out that if there had been a fire department than the neighborhood would have been saved.

3. Dr Fauci, the expert, claimed it was not a threat on January 21.
4. Nothing?  Signed the Coronavius Prepardness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act on Mar 6.  Recommended social distancing on March 16.  Tasked FEMA with obtaining medical supplies on March 17.  Signed $2 trillion stimulus bill on Mar 27.  Extended social distancing recommendation on March 29.

Ahh blaming Fauci.  Remember when Trump said it was 15 cases and soon to be zero?

You forget we had it here the same day as south korea and who has less deaths and and who has done more testing and flattened their curce?

December we could have put measures in place.

Trump cuts of Fauci every time he tries to speak.  Fauci has to kiss a little bit of ass so he doesnt get shiatcanned because he is trying to do the right thing. Yet the right wing is shiatting all over him.

Ahh the act established on March 6.  After the fact.  What about the Pandemic response he disbanded in 2018.

Oh  and the Defense Act.  He is using wrong.

Trump also ordered infected/exposed people returned to the states over the CDC's objections.

Stop carrying water for that asshole.

That's a shiat-poor analogy.  House fires are fairly regular.  So even small towns have a volunteer fire department.  A pandemic happens only every few generations, so keeping people on staff all the time makes no sense.  You keep a list of experts to tap should the need arises, but you don't stick them in an office sitting around waiting for something to happen, drawing a big salary the whole time.

Apparently Trump was supposed to know about a virus that the Chinese government denied even existed and was supposed to know how dangerous it was despite WHO insisting it was nothing for months.

People are blaming Trump when they should be mad as hell at the Chinese government.  That's where the blame belongs.

OgreMagi: So encouraging businesses to send needed medical supplies to a place experiencing a health crises before it became a world crises is now a bad thing?

So sending medical supplies away from a country they knew was about to experience a health crisis is a good thing?

You're the one who said we could have put measures in place, so you might try to show how smart you are by telling us all what could have been done in December.

pedrop357: Abacus9: fortheloveofgod: theflatline: NYC had 1000 people die in one day and we are not reporting people who died of pneumonia complications, food stores are lending their trucks to store the day.

They are, however, counting ANY death where the person tested positive for the virus as a COVID-19 death.  Die of a heart attack but tested positive - COVID-19 death.  Died of cancer but tested positive - COVID-19 death.

How many people are dying of C19 that haven't been tested because there aren't enough tests? They're not tested for it after they die, so the numbers are likelier on the low side. As it is, it's now the leading cause of death in the U.S.

Leading cause?  Not even close:
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/leading-causes-of-death.htm
Heart disease: 647,457
Cancer: 599,108
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
Alzheimer's disease: 121,404
Diabetes: 83,564
Influenza and pneumonia: 55,672
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 50,633
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 47,173

Do you even math?
647,457/365 = 1773

Covid deaths yesterday 1997

You ask the CDC.  That's farking their job.  A pandemic response team can be put together when the CDC says it is necessary.  There is no damn reason to have them sitting around doing nothing for years at a time.

Oh, wait.  That's exactly what happened.  The CDC said there was a problem.  A team of experts were put into place to deal with it.  If China hadn't farking lied about it for months, the response would have been quicker and more effective.

I'm firmly convinced you are a Chinese Sock puppet.  How much are you being paid?

Let's repeat this yet again.  It was localized to farking China at the time, moron.

Alien Robot: "If you don't contain it over there, you'll have to contain it over here."

I'd rather contain it over there.

Contain it over there when they knew it was coming here? That's some right stupid thinking.

Tommy Moo: I appreciate the need for caution, but it does seem like we dodged this bullet.

Having to reuse a single use mask is by definition running out.
And you might want to include the people dieing at home to your equations

fortheloveofgod: youncasqua: I'm really starting to think Trump was acting on orders from Moscow for the first two months of this year. I just don't see how he could have f*cked everything up this bad unless it was intentional.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Jan. 21, 2020 interview with Newsmax:

Well, you know, obviously, you need to take it seriously and do the kinds of things that the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security are doing. But this is not a major threat (emphasis added) for the people of the United States, and this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about."

What did he say after January 30 when the WHO said it was an emergency?
