This is why I only have furnishings treated with flame accelerants, so my kid will be accelerated.

At least they arent making children retardant...

I was told there would be no math. Apparently, so was the Daily Fail:

Kids who live in public housing, where those materials are commonplace, have toxin levels in their blood and urine up to 15 times higher than those who aren't exposed.

15 x 0 = 0, folks.

In before some grammar Nazi insists that the word "decimate" should only be used in a context that hasn't been relevant for nearly 2000 years.

They've already found a link between vinyl floors and autism, as well as parental obesity and autism. I'd guess it's not the vinyl, but the fire retardants.

In my day we only had asbestos in our vinyl flooring and we liked it.

Decimate?  We'll have no metric mating here.

if your child is that close to brain damaged already, good luck

i started off exceptionally gifted, and through years of drug and alcohol abuse, i am getting closer to normal.

The hide-a-bed has killed repeatedly. We must end the suffering. Kill all hide-a-bed sofas before they get us all.

/ Anytime someone wants me to help move and they have a hide-a-bed? I ain't helpin'.

Nothing about Duke sucking?  wow.

Also, there was a typo in the sentence that first mentioned Duke U, in case TFA's editors stop by here.

If you have Netflix and you haven't watched Stink!, watch that sucker. Also The Devil We Know. Yeah, Netflix doesn't exactly vet things, but YOU can, and the research for those two seems pretty damn sound. What seems like paranoia is the natural result of the hopelessly optimistic better-living-through-chemistry attitude that came out of the 50's and 60's and relentless lobbying from a profitable industry. Love Canal and the Union Carbide Disaster seem like paranoid fantasies, too.

We are living in a post-Teflon and post flame-retardant society. It's here, it's in all our bodies and it's not going away. Daily Mail's math is not the result of a badly-done 15x0, but an environment where you do not have to be any where near an obvious source of unsafe chemicals to have those chemicals in your system. Kids without a chemical-laden sofa and vinyl tile are not at zero, just less. It's in the water, it's in the air, it's in you. Sleep tight.

I'd say kick the kids outside for fresh air. But that would be crazy.

And yet, despite all these murdering toxins, we live longer than ever before. My every metric the world is doing better than ever.

It's all about perspective. The Romans had lots lots lots of lead all over the place. We lived with incredible levels of neurotoxins all throughout the industrial era. Sure it's horrible, and we need to do everything we can to reduce and eliminate these things as we become aware of them.

But overall, we're doing fine.

Vinyl flooring is much better than tile in reducing damage to small kids when they fall. Formica counter tops are vastly better than tile or marble counter tops when there are small kids in the house that want to keep their teeth. Yet neither is seen to be a good thing in a starter home.

By our current enlightened view of warfare, we wouldn't consider 10% losses to be decimation.

Fat people with autistic children are too poor to buy non-vinyl flooring? Possible I guess.

Oh, it's not just that.

Flame retardants are a big part of why people are living longer.  It's that whole 'keeping you from burning to death' thing they do.
