There is no one, in any combat sport, that had this combination of speed, grace and power.

Tyson had both but was not as fluid.

Ray leonard was fast but not as powerful

Jones was so loose, i forgot what he looked like out there.

Top ten goat

Prove me wrong!

no arguments from me, RJJ is the goat, if he stayed at LHW he would’ve retired undefeated

Canelo would beat Roy at 160. If one would say Canelo is as heavy as Toney was at 160, who made RJJ miss a lot by amazing defense or that Roy couldn’t move Toney with the high guard, then I say Canelo tags RJJ with impressive Ring IQ counters. The multi cat swinging didn’t dent Toney one bit at the pocket.

He lost to Golovkin twice. Roy would knock his chin off.

Nah. GGG lost the second one easily. The first was a Draw. Never in boxing history is it normal for an elite top 2 P4P to miss all night against another elite as if it were a sparring match and then get tagged back by Canelo.

Future generations will mock the current generation’s commentary and compubox. Canelo in both fights was the superior boxer.

aaaaaaaaaaaabsolutely not.

roy is faster than canelo, more powerful, better reflexes, better movement, and frankly, in his prime, unhittable. he’s beaten fighters with better “ring IQ” than canelo as well.

Canelo is a different era. RJJ missed a lot in combination attempts. His opponents didn’t have intuitive defense like Canelo nor could they sling back counters. RJJ was the most protected HBO star. Mayweather never had backing like such, and advanced drug testing was around in Roy’s time. The technology was there as it was present in the Olympics, but boxing regulation was nowhere near such fair sport like the Olympics. No way in hell
if there’s one thing i know about james toney, it’s his lack of intuitive defense and counter ability. same goes for bernard hopkins

Canelo is a great fighter, very solid.

But you are putting him into very very elite status by saying this. Like top p4p type status.

We we will never know, but keep in mind rjj was literally embarassing other pretty darn good fighters. He dominated toney and it was not a close fight.

We will never know, but id bet a ton on rjj

Toney was best on the inside while also doing amazing defense. BHop was a mover. None them have Canelo’s style. Styles make fights. Canelo is perhaps the best counter puncher in the game. He made Khan miss every round on combination attempts, and Khan’s style is not the same as Roy’s.

Canelo is a dangerous counter attacker. He exploits mistakes. He basically racked up points on GGg’s mistakes. Again, GGG who was #1 P4P at the time

I watch the Toney vs RJJ fight at least once a year, sometimes twice. It’s a personal favorite of mine. I’m just saying given their frame size, most of Roy’s opponents would fold on impact or budged. Toney held his own always coming to him and in the pocket. Of course Roy’s speed and offensive greatness, work rate, was still better than Toney. But Toney wasn’t the sharpshooter counter attacker in the RJJ bout for effective attempts.

Being short has its advantages. Canelo vs Roy wouldn’t even be a Duran vs Hearns size disparity, and we all know how far Duran went in his career.

Canelo is bound for 1st Ballot HOF, ATG. However, he got caught with Clenbuterol. No different than Roy’s infamous use of Ripped Fuel that rocked Ephedrine or any other weight diuretic type banned substances. So do we criticize just Canelo or go 100 on everybody?

so he beat a great defensive fighter who fights on the inside and one who fights on the outside? is there a third dimension canelo fights in?

Canelo beats Roy at 160lbs.
I agree

Canelo will go down as one of the GOATs of boxing, I think.
