We've been talking a lot about Joyce/Dubois and certain aspects surrounding the fight.

It got me thinking: What fights can you think of where guys have really damaged somebody's face up with mostly just their jab?

Jabs are great and a lot of fights have been dictated by a consistently strong, effective jab many, many times in the past.

But which ones in particular have you seen that stick out to you (no pun intended) that have really affected the fighter in question damage wise more than any other shots they were landing?

For instance I asked my brother and he gave me Liston/Wepner as his example. Your guys' thoughts?

Watson vs Benn & Kovalev vs Yarde were both jab KOs, though in both cases the other dude had been worn down by fighting like a fucking idiot beforehand.

Any Holmes fight qualifies, particulary after about 1981.

Lewis v Mason was very similair to the Joyce-Dubois fight, although the ref saved Mason..but not his career..too brave for his own good

Never seen that one, I'll check it out. Lennox had a telephone pole of a jab, so nasty, doesn't surprise me he could dole out that type of damage w/ it one bit.

Golovkin jabbed Lemieux' face into a pizza.
Oh shit. I fucking love GGG and totally forgot about that one. Great shout. GGG's jab is super underrated imo. Everyone talks about his ko abilities and how he beats ppl down with power shots but his jab is insane and a big reason why he was as effective as he was in walking guys down and imposing himself and that power on them.

Yeah the first guys that came to mind when thinking about making a thread like this for me were Holmes and Bazooka.

Sergio Martinez also had a really underrated jab imo. I don't know how much physical damage he managed to create on anyone tho. I remember him ruining Dzinzurik and Bunema w/ that jab tho.

Buster Douglas had an ATG jab. He knocked out contender Mike Williams with one (time stamped).

Khan got wobbled by the first jab Prescott landed.

In the UFC, GSP broke Koscheck’s orbital bone using pretty much only the jab. I remember that being the realisation the jab was effective in MMA.

Charlo took the wind out of Rosario with a jab to the body.

When Wilder commits in his jab, he hurts people. Duhaupas ate quite a few.

Liston KOed a few fellas with the jab, of course.

Simon Brown knocked down Terry Norris with a jab in round 1, setting up the following upset.

He broke Koscheck's orbital pretty early in that fight IIRC. One of the first handful of jabs that he landed did the damage. It was like 10 years ago but I remember that jab really being the key to victory as you said along with GSP's wrestling ability to keep it standing and occasionally take him down.

GSP and Liddell before him definitely set the blue print for using wrestling to keep it standing and striking to finish.

It was after the TUF where Kos was picking on GSP the whole time. As soon as the final horn sounded, Kos started with a, "it's only business", speech to GSP. I bet George found that very satisfying.

that's what happened to Mike Williams? The guy Mike Tyson gave shout outs after his fights as a tough sparring partner? It's rare but it happens, holmes kayoed ossie ocasio with a jab, Leonard knocked down Benitez with a jab. Ray Mercer oddly staggered Larry Holmes with a jab.

Yeah that was him. He continued boxing, but he never reached the same contender status again. He went into acting too cos of his physique and was in Rocky 5.

The jab is a great weapon. Above we mentioned it, that for years in MMA it was a waste, a rangefinder punch, till GSP showed the damage it can do.

in the early ufc's the jab was staggering guys who never took a punch, totally different world there. I still don't know why their boxing still looks so bad other than being lazy, it's not that hard to throw a proper punch.

View attachment 817409 Ali entirely closed Terrell's eye using his jab for 15 rounds.
terrel claimed ali thumbed him and damaged his eye and he couldn't see during the fight. In the sixties, just about every Ali opponent was under such pressure that they had to make excuses when they failed. No one wanted to lose to someone everyone wanted to see beaten. Liston threw his shoulder out, patterson had a bad back, terrel got thumbed. Chuvalo gave him his toughest fight in that era and his reward was the animus of the press as a "heavybag with eyes" for the rest of his career.

I remember one of those, it was an amateur fight at the olympics. I think it was Erislandy Savon (Cuba) vs a Russian boxer

In the few fights Ive seen of him, Erislandy always does a lot of damage with his jab

Hold on, ima look for the fight and hopefully post it here

Cant find it now. This one does show his phenomenal jabbing though. Fight starts 1:44
