Harry and Meghan star in trailer for Netflix documentary

A photo used in the trailer for and 's Netflix show which appears to suggest they were hounded by the press was actually taken at a premiere years before they met. The teaser for the Sussexes' docuseries, titled Harry & Meghan, features an image of rows of photographers clamouring for a snap.

However, the photographers were in fact at the red carpet for the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two in London in July 2011.

The picture flashes up in the trailer, which dropped last Thursday, before the Duke of Sussex says: "I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”

But Harry and Meghan did not meet until five years later in 2016.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward told The Sun: “I don’t imagine Harry would have realised, but Netflix have been careless here as it weakens Harry’s comment about protecting his family. This fake picture weakens his point.”

TalkTV presenter Piers Morgan, who has been an outspoken critic of the Sussexes, said: "Princess Pinocchio at it again…"

Royal biographer Angela Levin told TalkTV: "It's got nothing to do with them.

"Because there's so many it gives the impression that they're surrounded, their lives are taken up with being photographed with hundreds of photographers. It's absolutely shocking."

Royal author Robert Jobson added: "A photograph used in 'Harry and Meghan' Netflix trailer to show paparazzi 'hounding' them does - surprise, surprise - in fact show photographers who were INVITED at a Harry Potter film premiere."

It comes as the series is expected to drop on Thursday with the Royal Family no doubt bracing for fresh revelations from the couple, who are living in California after quitting royal duties.

The one-minute trailer shows a string of private photographs of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Images of Prince William and Kate with Harry and Meghan at the Commonwealth Day service in 2019 - the year before the Sussexes final public royal engagement at the same event - feature among the pictures.

Billed as a "global event", Netflix promised an "unprecedented and in-depth documentary series" over six episodes where Harry and Meghan "share the other side of their high-profile love story".

The streaming giant added it was a "never-before-seen look at one of the most-discussed couples in history".

It said the show "explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution".

It adds: "The series does more than illuminate one couple's love story, it paints a picture of our world and how we treat each other."

The director is two-time Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning director Liz Garbus.

Harry and Meghan signed their lucrative deal with Netflix after quitting the monarchy and moving to the US in 2020.
