Jafel Filho claims Muhammad Mokaev tapped out

He tapped to the back of the head shots.

I mean, he absolutely tapped.

Why? I dont know.

Apparently Filho had some sort of shoulder lock on Mokaev’s already damaged shoulder. You can’t really see it as it’s the shoulder on the opposite side in the video.

If he's tapping, what is he tapping to? Doesn't look like he released pressure of anything as a result of the tap? Could be the shoulder crunch.

I noticed it during the fight, but didn't think much of it because I didn't see a reason to tap. It was strange. I don't think it was intentional. No way it was. The guy let his knee get mangled to win the fight. If there was a time to tap, that would be it. Saying that, I would have been fine with the ref stopping the fight with the tap shown in the link. if the ref saw it and called it, I would have agreed with it being a stoppage.

That would have been a good lesson for Mokeav to watch his reactions during a fight. In all honesty though, this would have been a blemish on his record similar to Jon Jones vs. Hamil.

Wow, very weird... to me, that 100% looks like a tap. At the same time, it 100% did not look like he had anything to tap out to. This somewhat reminds me of Jiri VS Glover when Jiri appeared to have tapped out (to me), even though there was no apparent threat of a submission. I don't get the idea that he was intending to submit, but rather he tapped out without thinking about what his hand was doing... in any case, it sure beats the fuck out of me. I have no idea why you would tap someone like that as he did; very bizarre... thank you for sharing TS.

It certainly looks like a tap, just cannot figure out what he’s tapping to? Especially after you see what he didn’t tap to later on.
What I read was Mokaev had some pre-existing shoulder issue, the theory is that there was pressure on it, but that is the extent of what I found.

For those asking why he tapped, in his post fight interview Mokaev said he came into this fight with a shoulder injury. It's the same shoulder that is being manipulated at the start of the video.

My best guess is the shoulder got tweaked, and he kind of involuntarily tapped out of instinct before realizing he was fine to continue.

That's my hypothesis.

Regardless, I don't see how this doesn't get overturned. The video evidence very clearly shows a tap. It sucks for him if he ends up losing a W over that, but I don't know how that could be reviewed any differently.

I'm guessing he forgot where he was and thought for a moment that he was sparring, where a quick tap is generally the right thing to do if you're dazed or feeling an injury act up.
That could for sure be it -- when I'm training, the golden rule is "tap often, tap early". I actually did this myself in the finals of a grappling tournament lmao the guy was like "Did I even have you in anything?" I was like "No, but I'd rather tap too early than too late" especially since he was going for a leg lock haha
