Ryan Gilliam (he/him) has worked at Polygon for nearly seven years. He primarily spends his time writing guides for massively popular games like Diablo 4 & Destiny 2.

On Tuesday, Bungie announced that the original Destiny’s beloved PvP mode, Trials of Osiris, will officially come to Destiny 2 early next month.

The Trials announcement came in the form of an in-game cutscene and a tweet from Bungie. The cutscene takes players to the top of the Lighthouse to seemingly send a message to space.

But a tweet from the official Destiny 2 account takes players to a Bungie Developer Insight video titled “Destiny 2: Season of the Worthy — Trials of Osiris Returns.” This is the first official confirmation of the return of Trials of Osiris. The video will go live at 11 p.m. ET.

Since Feb. 4, Destiny 2 players have donated billions of Polarized Fractaline — a new seasonal resource in Season of Dawn — to a mysterious project called the Empyrean Foundation. On Tuesday, players completed the project, unlocked a new Triumph achievement, and revealed Trials of Osiris’ return.

Trials of Osiris is a weekends-only competitive PvP mode. Teams of three battle against opponents in the Crucible, and try to earn as many wins as they can before losing three matches. The more wins they get, the better their loot. The Trials of Osiris announcement comes after many leaks and hints over the past six months.

Trials of the Nine, a spiritual successor to Trials of Osiris, originally launched alongside Destiny 2. But Bungie put the mode on indefinite hiatus in 2018.

Season of the Worthy starts on March 10, and Trials of Osiris will likely start the following weekend, on March 13.
