Horizon Zero Dawn pre-load is live on Steam, but you'll have to watch out for these known issues

Those who pre-ordered Horizon Zero Dawn on PC can now pre-load the game.

Horizon Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games has finally made it possible to pre-load the game. The pre-load comes in at 67.1GB, but it's only available on Steam.

Owners of the game on the Epic Games Store will seemingly have to wait until Friday to download it, which isn't out of the ordinary. The EGS's track record with pre-loads has been spotty at best, with some games offering the ability and others not.

In any case, Guerrilla also revealed a few issues currently on its radar, which won't be fixed in time for launch. There are currently three known issues, which we've included below:

  • Anisotropic Filtering settings are not working. This is a high priority issue for us to resolve.
  • Some systems may experience a brief stutter during general world traversal, UI updates, quest updates, or camera swaps in cutscenes. This is a high priority issue for us to investigate.
  • Some animations are designed to only refresh at 30fps even if the game is running at a much higher frame rate. We are exploring how we can improve this with a future update.

Interestingly, Horizon Zero Dawn also has a Warzone-style approach to shader compiling, which means shaders will need to be compiled the very first time you launch game, and the process has be repeated every time you change your GPU drivers. Shader installation takes 10-15 minutes to finish, and needs around 2GB of extra storage space. If you don't have 2GB to spare, the process will crash.

If you're on the fence, check out some PC version gameplay and see if your PC matches the game's PC specs.
