Now, next month would offer several opportunities. The week of E3 is, of course, the most likely candidate, but there are a number of big platforms for the KH3 release date to be revealed.
First, there's June 9, which is when the 2018 Kingdom Hearts orchestra tour kicks off. Last year, Square Enix used the tour's similar date to debut a new Kingdom Hearts trailer.
Then, there's Square Enix's recently announced E3 live stream. It's unclear how big a show the event is intended to be, but the possibility of KH3's date could make the show a major kickoff to a day of conferences. Then there are the two major platform conferences at E3 — Microsoft and Sony's. Both conferences are two of the biggest events of E3, and debuting the release date during one of them would allow for a huge audience to learn of the date and see the new trailer all at once.
(As you can watch in the latest episode of Beyond, IGN's PlayStation show, our money is on the PlayStation conference being the most likely place for the announcement.)Square Enix previously confirmed a 2018 release window for KH3, and hopefully it won't be long before that yearlong window is narrowed down to a single day.
While you wait for Kingdom Hearts 3's release date, be sure to read IGN's first hands-on preview of Kingdom Hearts 3, and check out 10 minutes of offscreen gameplay to see the sequel in action.
