Clown Kink, Star Wars Fandom, and Kafkaesque Tumblr Hellscapes

“Either you’re ruining my childhood or everything’s problematic.” Nat (AshesforFoxes), Erin (Holocroning), and Shi (Ohtze) are Three Harpies podcasting about genre fiction. Metamashina is hours of intelligent discussion about the female gaze, women's voices in SF fandom, leftism versus neoliberalism, the importance of domestic labor narratives, and femmebots in film. About
"Born from frustration at the current state of fandom and a love for sci-fi franchises, Metamashina is a bi-weekly podcast that focuses on genre fiction from the feminine fan perspective. . . After going through the hellfire that is the Star Wars fandom, we’ve been called harpies or witches multiple times, but as we’re natural heathens we’re reclaiming both. . . After meeting through the Star Wars fandom, we found that we all loved discussing and dissecting genre fiction, be it anime, manga, novels, TV series, video games or movies. We were starved for narratives where women’s stories were heard. Not only that, but we wanted the active discussion and acknowledgement of said content, and were determined to get it."

Episode 1: Harpies "This week on Metamashina: the girls talk clown kink, Star Wars fandom, and Kafkaesque Tumblr hellscapes." (Title and pull quote come from this episode)
Episode 2: Koschei’s Beloved "This week on Metamashina, the girls talk Russian fairy tales, The Bear and the Nightingale, and Deathless."
Episode 3: Fuck You Light Yagami "The harpies are in full form with a rant session on Death Note–from its Japanese manga origins to an expletive-filled takedown of the worst aspects of the American 'adaptation.'"
Episode 4: The Sorcerer Husband "Today we’re going to be covering a subject that’s very near and dear to our hearts: 'domestic' fantasy and the Sorcerer Husband trope."
Episode 5: Fiddlin’ to Fanfiction "We discuss the ins and outs of the medium [fanfiction], its history from 1960s-onwards, our personal experiences with it and the importance of women in defining the genre."
Episode 6: Teen Drama Queens "They’re catty, they’re snobby, they’ll ruin your high school experience. So why do we love them so much? In today’s episode we cover the Holy Trinity of 'teen drama queen' films: Clueless, Mean Girls, and Heathers."
Episode 7: “Star”-Crossed Lovers "We explore our personal interest in the enemies-to-lovers pairings, the undeniable attraction between the dark and the light side (in both Legends and Canon), and talk shop about the fan reactions to these pairings. Also Reylo. LOTS of Reylo."
Episode 8: “In Space No One Can Hear You Scream”—Aliens Part I "Ellen Ripley: feminist icon. Ridley Scott: not so much."
Episode 9: “I Can See You’re Upset About This, David”—Aliens Part II "The second part of our discussion of the Alien Franchise ends with a whimper rather than a bang as we try hard to appreciate the beautiful, but flawed Prometheus and Alien: Covenant."
Episode 10: Invasion of the Marias "We start our series on ladies of the future with the 1927 silent film Metropolis, directed by Fritz Lang and reconstructed in 2010. The harpies get heavy on Marxism, history, feminine-coded maschinenmensch, and why we can all love both Freder and Faust."

Yessssss, I've loved Ohtze's writing since I came across the "Kill the King" essay. So good.

I've also been amused by how people like Rian Johnson and Mark Hamill have been indicating "REYLO IS CANON, GET OVER YOUR FANBOY SELVES." Ahem.

Wow,thanks for this- had already read and loved Otze's Star Wars essays linked above, they were both (I think?) linked in the Last Jedi mega-thread. But looking forward to more crunchy goodness!
