Always loved The Cars. However, I saw
them in Chicago, 1985. Worst show ever. "Played" every song note for note. Not a single riff. Nobody on stage moved even one single step. It sucked.

/Wang Chung opened for them.

Agreed. Saw them in California around 1986. Same review from me. Drive two hours to see a band and they had no opening act, played for 70 minutes, no interaction with the audience, nothing different from the records. Waste of time and money.

But R.I.P. anyway of course.

I don't want to speak ill of the dead, but The Cars were a very uneven with their live performances. Still, some of the best synth-pop rock ever.

Sort of weird to post one of the only hits of theirs where he wasn't the lead singer.

So, coming soon, Rick's new band, The Hearses.

Funny, I came to post about the things I've read about their live shows. The reviews have said their live shows were just like listening to the record. But then, the songs were pretty good, so I'm not sure how much I would complain. My favorite song of The Cars is "My Best Friend's Girlfriend". From the videos I've seen on YouTube, they perform exactly as you've said.
