There is more than one way to empower your daughter.  For example you could buy her a gun. To be honest, I don't see these people existing in any other state than misery or tragedy.

We've been accepting donations the last few weeks for a huge fundraising garage sale we're having next weekend, we've been going through items and putting empty boxes on the front porch to tear down later as we clear boxes out, many are Amazon boxes.   I noticed two of them disappeared earlier this afternoon -  they were loaded down with donated junk I was going to haul to the trash later this week.

Someone thought they walked off with my new Amazon purchases.

I believe it was here on Fark that I learned this little trick:

Step 1: Use Amazon boxes for cat litter
Step 2: When full, reseal and place on porch

Tada!

I'll take a guess, maybe it's convenience?  People certainly aren't saving money buying from Amazon anymore, they aren't the bargain they used to be.

I actually tried that.  Like 5 neighborhood cats pissed all over it and now I'm pretty sure to get rid of the stink I'll have to replace some boards.  Easy enough to do but they won't match the rest.

Yes, I laughed really hard.

I venture the theory that Amazon and other online sellers forced brick and mortar stores to match their prices.

I "window shop" a lot of guitars and amps and found online versus local retail to generally be the same, although local is actually often less these days.

Fender Mustang GT40 and GT100 amps are a prime example.  They went up $50 everywhere online.  I had bought the 40 local before the increase and was getting strings a couple weeks ago and asked the kid how much the 100 was.  When he gave me the "old" price of $349 I said "Talk to your manager...I get these 4 packs of strings for free and I buy the amp."  I figured I may as well spend the money now and save $50, although this month was already an expansive one.

/Doc bill was $800
//Needed new tires, got a great deal from a buddy for $740 will alignment, road hazard, and an oil change for p255/60Rs (Pep Boys in Dacula, Ga, ask for Kevin the manager
//Had to do a major food shopping run, hoo boy $270 just for me.

If it is something expensive, and a headache to send back, I'll get it locally.  If it is something that I don't mind sending back, and the price is WAY cheaper online, I'll do it that way.

Dang,

Depends on the type of theft. Sometimes there's a lot of work involved. In this case it's just the usual work of not getting caught in the process.

You'ld Rather have thieves that didn't steal? How would they make their money? You know how hard it is to be a thief? Not like you can just use that on your resume to get another job.

I live 20 miles from the nearest city, and my house sits on several acres 500 feet from the street. It's why I buy on-line for home delivery. I haven't had a porch pirate yet. If I do, I hope they like my taste in Science Fiction, or the electronics and car parts I get for my projects.

Has anyone done a reverse porch pirate? Like getting a package delivered that's not yours and having to figure out who it actually belongs to and hand delivering it to them? Been there

Yup.

Got a box to my apartment's correct number but it was on the wrong street. Tried over the course of three days to buzz the guy's place so I could be let in the building but either nobody was home or they ignored it. Finally just gave it to a UPS truck making a stop on my street on the fourth day, I assume it ended up getting to him but I obviously can't say for sure.

That happens to me, and it is usually USPS putting mail for other addresses in my mailbox.

No. I have had wrong deliveries. I call FedEx, UPS or whoever and report it. Let them come and fix it. I do like to tell the person on the phone that I have a poor little lost package at my door crying for its mommy. I had to give it some milk and cookies to cheer it up. Yes, I think I am a comedian.

Michigan is working on a bill that will put a law on the books that specifically bust porch pirates. If your state isn't, why not?

The reason for it is because the federal law protecting mail and packages only involves USPS delivered packages, not packages delivered by private companies.

Yes.  I got a package sent to someone else's name at my address.  Thanks to my state's shiatty privacy laws, it was really easy to find her actual address, phone number, political affiliation, voter status (active), etc.  Instead of 15 Scrub Way, it should have been 15 Snrub Way.  It wasn't far away so I drove it over and dropped it off.

I've also had a package that was marked as "delivered" but wasn't actually delivered.  Turns out they messed up my street number and addressed it to a house that doesn't exist so they re-shipped.  A neighbor dropped off the original shipment the day after my replacement shipment arrived.  Don't know why the UPS guy picked that random house instead of sending it back or dropping it on my porch.  He knows my name and which of the 6 houses is mine.  Company said to go ahead and keep both shipments.

It should already be plenty illegal to steal shiat under existing laws.  Why do we need a new one?

I can only hope what was in the box was a much better security camera. I don't care what kind of security system you got, if it cannot identify the culprits it just tells you what you already know, someone stole your shiat.
