(The Sun (Ireland))   Even a pandemic can't keep the Irish from drinking: cops raid fully operational illegal pub inside a Shebeen in Kildare, complete with stools, tables, full sized pool table, and a 70 inch flat-screen TV   (thesun.ie) divider line

Shebeen, eh? Well, I have one thing to say about that. What kind of Shebeen is filled with rambunctious yahoos and hot jazz music at 1:00 in the morning?

Er, uh ... the ... best damn Shebeen in town!

Shebeen means speakeasy or an illegal drinking establishment according to the googles.

thealgorerhythm: Looked like a garage or tool shed?

the cement grooves on the ground suggest it's a very old animal shed. those grooves used to be scored in the wet concrete so you wouldn't be slipping on wet cow shiate in the middle of winter.

The final pic of the Guards carrying out beer kegs make me think it's possibly a horse stable going by the 'Dutch Doors' (split doors) as a normal cow shed wouldn't need all those doorways, unless it's separate stalls for individual horses

So do you have fun finding plot holes in Sherlock series as well?

Doesn't "Shebeen" already mean illegal pub? So the cops raided an illegal pub inside an illegal pub?

This Old House and Cheers both had a main character Norm. Coincidence? Did you ever see a crossover episode that has them both on-screen at the same time?

There is nothing to do in the country. Their lives revolve around the local pub.

And if given a choice between killing elderly relatives and going to the pub, well, these are the people who still fight against drink driving laws

How many Irish does it take to change a light bulb?
3. one to hold the bulb, two to drink until the room spins.

What's the difference between an Irish wedding and an Irish funeral?
One less drunk.

Thankfully due to modern technology I now find flat screen TV''s dumped in the ditch along my road by white trash instead of console TV's.  So that's progress.

I had a 35-in Toshiba.

https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-35A44-35-TV/dp/B0002JARO8

Let's see. I was about 35 years old and I weighed about 180 lb. I am not athletic. I had to move it from one side of the room to another. I used mover straps to wrap around the TV and my body.

Holy s***. According to that link it was 196 lbs. I never moved it again.

I can top this.  I had a friend who lived in a third floor (no elevator) apartment around 2000.  He bought one of the bigger sony vegas, the 36 inch one.  And he bought the display model with no box.  I helped him move it up the stairs and nearly died hefting that farking thing. My fingers and hands looked like they went through a cheese grater from holding that plastic base.

Just looked it up, 270lbs.  He gave me a case of sam adams for my trouble, and while i was glad for that because i was underage, it was not worth it.

Kind of a tangent to your comment, I once bought a secondhand motorcycle seat online and the ad said it came from a smoke-free home. Well, I would demand nothing less.

A THOUSAND TIMES THIS!!! As much as technology has disrupted our lives, and made us colder and more distant from each other (way pre-pandemic), tried to get us to join the rewards club of every store we shop at so they can send us texts and emails every five minutes like we heart them, I wouldn't want to live without google maps (as opposed to the briefcase of maps i used to lug around), the dozen crates of LP's I broke my back moving from place to place, or the boat anchor TV's. My biggest TV now is 50", and just because I now have a wall big enough for it, I'm contemplating an 85" just because the biggest problem I'm likely to have getting it here is borrowing a van to fit it in.

The King's Crown ( I think? Forgive me but 19 was a while ago) Jazz Bar, Toronto Canada. We even rented a room there. So bad I accepted roaming charges when I called home so the number wouldn't show up on caller ID.

Communal bathroom down the hall with a flimsy hook and eye lock and the creepy crack dealer in 2A watched you enter and exit. I did get to watch an episode of Due South I hadn't yet seen.
