The allure of the mule—the hybrid shoe-slipper that found its moment during the pandemic—doesn't look to be fading any time soon. We've seen a wide-ranging rise in the style within the past year, with everyone from sportswear titan Nike to Swedish fashion freaks Our Legacy jumping in on the action. Among the crowd was the Reebok Beatnik, a sharply off-kilter silhouette revived from the brand's archive. It found new life thanks to sneakerheads and menswear-loving folks alike, both searching for a shoe that was both stylish and comfortable. And looking at a fresh crop of Beatniks that Reebok just dropped, it feels safe to say that the silhouette won't be going away anytime soon.

The Reebok Beatnik has kept a pretty steady presence as a well-stocked offering, a constant that you can scoop up without competing against a maze of bots or furiously refreshing a digital "waiting" room. Sure, some red-hot collaborations with brands like Brain Dead and Needles have dropped, but the general release styles tend to come in equally covetable colors and fabrics. Now, Reebok has revamped the silhouette just in time for fall with a cozy quilted canvas upper that sits atop the unmistakable jagged-edge rubber outsole. You can pick up the Beatnik in some very autumnal colors like burnt orange, washed-out navy, or even soothing dark grey. The updated look plays into a swirling tornado of beloved-of-the-moment aesthetics: it's a bit high-style outdoorsy, with just the right amount of casual cool, and still offers all the comfort of a sandal.

The rise of the Beatnik has been slowly happening over the past couple of years. First, it was given an exclusive launch in Japan with a 2018 reissue, then it landed stateside, where the momentum continued to quietly build. When 2020 came along, with many of us spending increased time at home, the style skyrocketed to new heights of popularity. The wide-ranging appeal makes sense, too. The Beatnik looks pretty great in whatever fabric or color it gets finished in, including this highly pleasing quilted canvas—and if Reebok staffer Leo Gamboa's Instagram is any indicator, we can expect to see more top-tier colorways in the future. Until then, though, any of these supremely cozy and easily wearable styles will make a worthy addition to your closet.
