Straying from the Blue-Pink Color Scheme to Represent Gender in Visualization (The Process #55)

I got pushback on a recent graphic I made that shows data for boy and girl names. I did not use blue for boys and pink for girls. Instead, I used orange for boys and turquoise for girls. In this week’s issue, I think out loud about why this was even an issue.
