Introducing Off Type: Pangram Pangram launch their quirky sister foundry with nine off-beat fonts

Much-loved Canadian foundry Pangram Pangram have unveiled Off Type, a new sister foundry that contrasts their mainline collection of trend-conscious, versatile fonts with an initial release of nine crazy, silly and experimental creations.

“During the past year or so, we definitely noticed that the industry was opening up more and more to crazy and quirky experimental typefaces,” Founder Mat Desjardins tells us, adding that they “also realised that most of the typefaces used in these newer contexts were usually just made by designers manipulating bezier points from other typefaces or simply just creating static vector images.” Desjardins, therefore, teamed up with prolific type designer Valerio Monopoli to add some originality to this new era of experimental type, combining it with the signature quality and craft we have come to expect from Pangram Pangram to launch something truly unique, and off-beat.

“I think an off-beat font is one that stands out from the crowd because of its unique features and approach,” Desjardins continues. “We’ve thought and designed each of these fonts with a certain penchant for the odd, the experimental, the brutal and the wonderful. They are fonts that are more on the edge of design or at the beginning of the trend curve. If convention is at the centre, Off Type’s off-beat fonts are gravitating way out in the distance while Pangram Pangram’s fonts are closer to the core.”

To bring the Off Type world to life, and further solidify it as a separate entity, Pangram Pangram formed a collaborative dream team with Sergio Larisa, Studio Ground Floor and Bureau Borsche. The result is a beautifully eclectic type-based universe, led by a fascinating creature-led campaign.
