Furloughed Government Workers Can Get Free Tickets to The Met

As the government shutdown continues, The Met is offering furloughed federal government employees the opportunity for a little escape in the form of a free show at The Met.

Federal employees that are affected by the ongoing shutdown are now able to get free tickets for all performances at the Met from today until January 31, 2019, excluding the January 26 matinee—and they can bring a friend.

Eligible federal employees can reserve a pair of tickets per person per performance on the day of each show. In order to get one, the employee will either need to be physically at the Met box office, or call the box office at 212-362-6000.

As you might imagine, seats are also limited. Only a certain amount of tickets are available for each performance.

The free tickets are available for 12 performances:

Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande - January 19, 22, 25, and 31

Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur - January 19, 23 and 26

Bizet’s Carmen - January 21 and 29

The double bill of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta and Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle - January 24 and 28

Mozart’s Don Giovanni - January 30
