Use an Extension to Reschedule Work on a Sick Day

When you’re out sick from work, there’s often a lot of stuff that needs to be done before you can take some cough syrup and pass out on the couch next to a bowl of soup. Skip that work with this Siri Shortcut.

Siri Shortcuts allow you to tell Siri to do your important tasks with just a couple words as commands; they only work with in iOS 12, so if that sounds appealing and you haven’t updated, now is the time. RoutineHub is a site that offers Siri Shortcuts created by users and developers. Author @bachya is offering their answer to the work inherent in a day off of work.

Out Sick is a new shortcut that takes care of a lot of that busywork by sending off a bunch of emailed notifications to people expecting things from you including:

Emails all attendees of meetings you’ve scheduled and lets them know you’ll need to reschedule.

Emails all of the meeting owners whose meetings you’ve accepted and lets them know you can’t make it (bonus: each owner gets a single email from you, regardless of how many meetings they have on your calendar).

Adds a reminder to Reminders for the next day, reminding you to get back to all the missed meetings (a list of which are included in the reminder itself).

The shortcut doesn’t require an additional app. Simply download it here, then type “out sick” into Siri. You might want to run a test on its effectiveness before settling in for that nap. Maybe try it on a day when you’re feeling perfectly well—and then just play hooky.
