Rihanna and her boyfriend Hassan Jameel reportedly broke up after nearly three years, a source told Us Weekly on Friday.

The musician and Fenty founder kept her relationship with Jameel, a Saudi billionaire and businessman, largely private while they were dating. The Us Weekly report of the couple’s breakup comes about three months after Rihanna shared in a Vogue interview that she was in an exclusive relationship.

“Yeah, I’m dating. I’m actually in an exclusive relationship for quite some time, and it’s going really well, so I’m happy,” Rihanna told Vogue’s op-ed editor Abby Agguire in a cover story published in October 2019.

Fans are clinging to hope that newly single Rihanna will release her long-awaited ninth album

Rihanna has famously taken a hiatus from releasing new music to focus on managing her makeup brand, Fenty Beauty, which she launched in September 2017; and her size-inclusive lingerie collection, Savage x Fenty, which launched in May 2018.

In December 2019, Rihanna released a video on Instagram hinting that she had recorded her ninth album, "R9," but "was refusing to release it." Fans of the "Work" singer were vocal about missing her music, and many speculated on Twitter that they thought she might drop her album on New Year's Eve.

Now, following news of her breakup with Jameel, fans seem to be clinging to hope that the newly single star will drop new music.

"Rihanna... this is not the kind of single we wanted," wrote one fan on Twitter.

"This Rihanna and Hassan Jameel split better be the push she needs to release the album," another user tweeted.

Amid the tweets focusing on Rihanna's musical hiatus, a few fans pivoted the conversation away from the star's potentially forthcoming music, offering well-wishes to the star and encouraging people to give her space.
