A listing for a $44,000 tiny home frame is generating buzz for its sleek design — but it'll cost far more to get the unit move-in ready.

The Home Depot is selling a 540-square-foot "Getaway Pad" from Plus 1 Homes, an "accessory dwelling unit" that could go in your backyard with the proper permits. The product picture features a bedroom and a spiral staircase that leads to a roof deck.

While the product's image is shown complete with windows and doors — you'll have to pay extra for those additions.

Home Depot's website specifies that the $43,832 price tag includes the steel structure and the parts needed for assembly. You'll have to pay thousands more to finish the home with doors, windows, electrical plumbing, and other details. And the deck is also an upgrade option, per the website.

As with most projects like this, you'll also need permission from local zoning councils to build the ADU on your property. Actually assembling the project may also require assistance — whether from a construction service or some friends and family, Insider previously reported.

The steel frame will not be impacted by termites, mold, rodents, and bugs, per the Plus 1 Homes product details. The website also said the structure was fire-resistant and could withstand inclement weather conditions, including cyclones and hurricanes.

Tiny homes and accessory dwelling units have gained newfound interest over the last year. As Gen Z and millennial homebuyers face a competitive housing market — with limited housing and high mortgage rates — a tiny home may be a more affordable alternative.

And if the home from Home Depot is out of your price range, Amazon sells homes in a range of sizes and prices, from $1,000 to $100,000.
