Former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday repeatedly blasted her ex-colleague Jared Kushner, saying his presence at the White House felt like "take your kid to work day."

"Some days felt like this extended, chaotic, 'take your kid to work day' when Jared was in charge of everything," Conway said during an interview with The View while promoting her new book, "Here's the Deal," which came out Tuesday.

Conway, who served as former President Donald Trump's counselor from 2017 to 2020, described Kushner as a "very smart person who's heart is in the right place to help this country," but that he had "out-of-balance, all this authority and no accountability" at the White House.

Kushner worked as Trump's senior advisor throughout his term. Trump would frequently praise his son-in-law and  allowed him to play a major role in the administration's handling of various issues, including foreign policy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Conway told The View that tensions between her and Kushner began as soon as Trump took office.

"He got in my way, and all Donald Trump asked us to do was work together," Conway said. "I had been pushed aside by so many men throughout my political and professional career, and here was my shot. Donald Trump empowered me. He put me at the top of his campaign and all he wanted us to do was work together. But almost the moment Donald Trump won, Jared was getting in my way."

Conway then described how Kushner often blocked her from TV appearances and meetings, and dismissed her ability to handle certain policy matters.

"He said 'Why are you on TV talking about that you're going to work on opioids and veterans? He said, 'You're offending the people who are going to work on opioids and veterans. Why do you think you can do that?'" Conway recalled Kushner telling her. "I said, 'The president said I could put it in my portfolio.' That's not good enough."

Conway went on to criticize Kushner's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and pinned some blame on him for Trump's 2020 election loss.

"He shouldn't have been in charge of COVID. He also shouldn't have been in charge of the election," she said. "They screwed up the Midwest politically, and then he took off to the Mideast to bring peace."

Kushner did not immediately return Insider's request for comment.

In her new book, which details her years in the Trump White House, Conway also did not mince words, calling Kushner "shrewd and calculating."

Kushner misunderstood the Constitution and believed that "all power not given to the federal government was reserved to him," she wrote.
