Lenovo announces WRITEit 2.0 for their Windows PCs and tablets

Back before CES, there were some reports of a new version of WRITEit from Lenovo. The software augments the Windows experience by letting users write anywhere with a pen or even a finger in text boxes without the giant handwriting pop-up window.

Lenovo has now pulled back the curtains on WRITEit 2.0, and it is available to download starting tomorrow (although you can get the old version now). Unfortunately, the app is still locked to just Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga, ThinkPad Tablet 10, ThinkPad Helix and Yoga Tablet 2 with AnyPen devices.

Lenovo said the following about the release:

"We developed WRITEit 2.0 as a free software application to turn a Windows touch screen into a virtual canvas. With a pen or finger, users can easily write on, draw, highlight, doodle or mark anything on their screen; this includes: Word documents, photos, presentations, web pages, and more. Users can even create a blank canvas to write or draw and express their creativity. WRITEit 2.0 lets users save their creations as an image and then quickly send it and share it with others."The application tools include twelve pen colors in three widths and four highlighter colors along with an eraser. WRITEit 2.0 also has a virtual canvas layer that allows users to freely annotate using their digitizer pen or their finger."

Owners of Lenovo's products can just head to www.getwriteit.com to download the setup and get started. (If you try to install the file on a Surface or other touch PC you will be notified that the app will not work).

There were some reports over on redid that the company was going to release WRITEit 2.0 for all touchscreen PC, which would have been fantastic for Surface users. However, for now, that is not the case. The WRITEit page does mention "Expanded device support coming soon." so perhaps it is still on the roadmap (people who used it on the Surface reported some accuracy issues due to the extra hi-DPI did not account for in the app).
