The story behind the formation of Singer Reimagined is an interesting one indeed. Following the encounter between Rob Dickinson (Singer Vehicle Design) and Marco Borraccino (an Italian Watch Designer), the two had decided to combine their expertise to recreate watches inspired by the 1970s (similar to how Singer recreates and manufactures the “Perfect” air-cooled Porsche 911).
In this year’s SIHH, Singer Reimagined had produced the second edition of its revolutionary chronograph in yellow gold: the Track1 Geneva Edition. The watch is pretty much inspired, as mentioned, by the 1970s. This can be seen in its design cues, as well as the light yellow shade (1N) in the gold that was used in its case. What is also interesting is that the movement is an antithesis of its design, which is very modern and radical in its construction and execution.

The first thing that people will probably notice about the Track1 is its aesthetics. One of the ethos of Singer Reimagined is to create watches where the design follows function. It is a rather simple-looking timepiece, and it is conceived to ensure that the functions are legible and intuitive to use. This can be seen in the dial layout of the watch. The middle portion of the watch is reserved solely for the chronograph, which is indicted by three hands (to calculate the seconds, minutes, and hours that had elapsed). The outer portion, which consists of a minute and hour ring, tells time via a static indicator that is placed at the 6 o’clock position. The layout is slightly unusual, but it definitely plays a huge focus on the main highlight of the watch – which is the chronograph function.

The 43mm timepiece is also a reminiscence of watches from the 1960s and 1970s. It features a barrel-shaped case, emphasised by alternate sun-ray brushed and polished finishes. The pushers, located on either side of the case, are designed for better operations. The crown is also seamlessly integrated into the case design. The overall effect is brilliant, especially with its near symmetrical shape.

Powering the Singer Track1 is the AgenGraphe, a self-winding movement. The movement is a culmination of a decade of development – which allows the chronograph counters to be positioned at the centre of the watch. This ensures the legibility of the chronograph, and allowing it for a more intuitive and easy user experience. What is also particularly interesting is the fact that the rotor is on the dial-side, which allows the user to have a complete view of the stunning movement.
With a retail price of CHF 72,000 (approximately S$99,064), the Singer Reimagined Track1 is slightly on the higher end of the price scale. However, if one is looking for a conversational and well-made timepiece that is like no others, look no further. We reckon Singer Reimagined is going to be an up-and-coming brand, and we are definitely keeping this brand within our sight for future releases.
